Have you ever flown an airplane with power to spare? This Turbine Legend has the horses to keep up with a Mustang.

Sweet plane but it has an arduous history. Just like the ViperJet, they are all one off custom jobs, that are not snap together kits like you would find in an RV, Sonex or Kitfox. Major money, major time and pilot requirements leaves these "toys" to the one percent'ers.

@@geraldthomas5915 I'm not sure what numbers you were looking at. But at $500,000 to build one, or $300,000+ for a used one, it is a little more expensive than most cars. And burning 50-70 GPH isn't chicken feed either. I am an airplane owner, and fly as often as weather allows.

Sadly, lawyers have made aviation so expensive that planes like this are beyond the price range of most pure pilots until they are almost too old to properly enjoy the machine’s full envelope. Happy to intern for someone who can afford a few of these and learn how to myself!
@TheJacobshapiro4 жыл бұрын
crazyskyguy it’s not just lawyers, be real. A 300+ knots turbine airplane with modern avionics. Your point might rain true with light GA aircraft (a Cherokee used to cost the same as an average car, now it’s ~$350k) but a fast turboprop would never be cheap enough for the average joe to afford.

What are the particulars on the building of this bird? Can you describe what the kit provides? How many hours were put into it and by whom? What specialized skills and tooling are required? What is the ultimate cost of this particular build including engine and avionics? It appears to be a very nice machine. I’m sure it’s fun but is it also practical for two people on a trip in terms of range, max gross, c.g., and baggage capacity?

NoName. NoName. Sure you can have your opinion about it. Just the same as l can have my opinion that tricycle is the way to go. Just as the designer can have their opinion as well. That's all totally fine, but why not base it on some reasoning? e.g It should have a conventional gear because _____.

Engines are often the downfall of new designs. Turboprops are expensive and thirsty. If the turboprop cost was similar to an IO-540, this would be a more popular option. Meanwhile a used L-39 trainer jet can be had for under $400k. Which might be why there is a race class for them at Reno.
@Sethgolas4 жыл бұрын
Still very cheap compared to Rolls Rose Merlin. Or a jet.
@calvinnickel99954 жыл бұрын
Most new designs are built around a Lycoming, Continental, or Rotax four cylinder. Plenty of planes that approach this in ramp presence, experience, and performance. The RV-8 comes to mind. Especially when you consider that the Legend will have to stop for fuel twice as often as the RV-8.

No you don’t. Get an RV-8. It’s almost all of what this thing is. It can pull the same G forces, do the same maneuvers, looks almost the same from the inside and on the outside. Can takeoff and land quicker. Has more endurance. The only way an RV-8 comes up short is climb rate (but not necessarily climb angle since the RV climbs at a much slower speed), top speed, and the ability to sustain high G. But if you’re flying this to have fun, things taking longer is usually better.
