Barry I wasn't going to watch this because I'm not sure how relevant this would be here, but curiousity being what it is, I'm glad I'm not a cat!! I remember years ago, reading about "Dapping," with a line meant to catch the wind and a ball of Daddy Long Legs on a small hook bouncing just on the surface. Having seen this pattern, I can use try them out here just for the heck of it! Thank you Barry! A nice job on this!
@Thefeatherbender4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kerry, yes dapping! You use what they call a "Spinnaker" floss line that has little wind resistance. On the end of the floss line you attach a tippet and then your fly or flies. It was common to use real flies, so they had small boxes with a netting front that they collected living mayflies or daddies in. They also had a special hook with a very small spring loaded clip on top, that they would attach 2 or 3 mayflies or daddies with. The whole thing would be fished on a 15-16 foot rod from a drifting boat, so the flies would be blown up off the water and be dapped on the surface like a real fly landing and taking off. Extremely effective...

Dang son.. I have been busy! it is gonna be over 100 F here today so I took the time off my home work to stay inside.. So... I return to my beast to see what my pal is up to and WOW.. what a bug! Grand tie! That was amazing! Although to us boys over here in the colonies a daddy long leg is a kind of spider.. But then what the heck huh? That was beautiful Barry.. Hope things are going well with you.. been out on the boat a few times but fly fishing is gonna have to wait.. Aw heck I was never that good at it anyway.. I just loved the streams and rivers I used to hike into to do it.. take care my brother.. be safe always!
@Thefeatherbender4 жыл бұрын
Well its not 100F here just rain and loads of it!! Well they are also called crane flies here, but the common name is daddy long legs, the spider that you call a daddy long legs is called a harvest man here in Europe. Stay safe and play careful.

Hi I'm a beekeeper and also a trout fisherman and just started to tie fly's. I have a quantity of bees wax spare each year and would like to find a good use for it. I was wondering if there is any use for it in fly tying and fishing I could use it for and maybe make some products to sell to others? I cant find much online about the subject
