You're welcome, Stan! Want one more trick? Try using Semperfli Nano Silk for the wing, it makes everything go SO EASY! Link: alnk.to/7qdrRvg Hope all is well! Tim

Nathan, the Comparadun is a style of dry fly, with other ones being Catskill-style, parachutes, etc. This style of fly gives a great profile on the water, due to its wing. I have tied and fished the Comparadun with an Adams-gray body; it's a great fly that fishes well. Thanks for checking. TC

Tim of late I have gone to using GSP in tying compareduns. I can really put some hair on the hook, a better floating fly also I been setting the wing the way Charlie Craven does it, it's very very slick and makes a nice proportioned fly. I learn something new just about every day. The amount of information and instruction to be had at a click of a mouse is staggering.

Thanks for discussing substitute materials for different flies in your tutorials. It would be very costly to have the original pattern materials. I haven't tied flies for about 40 years and just started again in February 2016. I have quite a few patterns tied and hope they catch fish. I'm planning on fishing in Idaho and Montana next month. Wish me luck. I really enjoy your tutorials. They are very informative and detailed. Thanks for sharing them.

+Dennis Dunning Thanks for the comments, Dennis, and the kind words regarding my tutorials. I'm happy to help and glad you have gotten some information from them. I also am glad to hear your thoughts regarding substituting materials, as it is definitely essential (versus having a small fortune in fly tying!). Thanks again, and good luck in Montana and Idaho! Be sure to let me know how you did... Tim

Well I will throw in my two cents into it Nathan, one of the real advantages is costs, If you noticed dry fly Necks of good quality have be come quiet expensive compared to some things, inflation associated with growing the birds ( chickens), its an very inexpensive style of dry fly to tie! The hard part is getting the wing right, once you do they are quick and easy to tie, I been tying and fishing this sort of May fly imitation for going on 40 years now, sure I fish traditional and parachute styles too, but you can have a long trout fishing career and an effective one too, if its all you fish when it comes to mayfly dries!

Nice instruction Tim, I have many different deer hairs as well. belly hair, primo for spinning and complete deer hair bodies, and comparadun hair. Nature Spirit carries a deer hair specifically called dark or light comparadun wing hair. I bought that whenever I started tying. It has always served me well and ties in easily as well. Very little flaring although it still floats well. Probably what is selling as "humpy" hair now. All the best, and God bless you and your family. Say hello to Uncle John for me. Sean

Sean Mooney Thanks, Sean, and there are lots of deer hair types out there! I definitely love fishing these patterns, and tying them is almost as fun. I hope all is well, and will pass on a hello to Uncle John. Tim

Hi Tim. Watch your vids and enjoy them much. Thanks for sharing. The BWO's on some of the streams I fish here in PA are very small. Do you tie comprara duns down to 18's and 20's? I find it very difficult to use deer hair for wings down in these sizes, and I have tried many many different pieces/types of deer hair. Any suggestions for an alternate wing material that won't bulk up for these sizes other than cdc? Thanks, man...

You're welcome, Ray, and I'm happy to help. I will tie Comparaduns with deer hair to size 18, though normally not 20. I've also used snowshoe rabbit, but it bulks up a lot, too. Aside from CDC, you've hit the major materials I use. If you try anything else, be sure to let me know. Tim
