Catch and release! There's nothing more beautiful than watching a glorious water dragon fly away under the water and happy to be home. While still knowing, I GOT YOU!

Tough to beat catch-and-release, Brandon, though I've been reading lots more about it with smaller hooks compared to larger ones, as certain barbless hooks may increase damage. I will investigate further, and still release the vast majority of my fish. Thanks for taking a moment to comment. Tim www.troutandfeather.com

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Marco Esquandolas . Returning the fish to the water quickly is a critical part that I'm glad you mentioned. Thanks again for the comments. TC

Newbie fly fisherman here, thanks for explaining all the why's behind the how. Just got a 100 fly kit and will de-barb each and every one.

Do you think that maybe you could feature a video on how you add a slotted bead to a hook Thanks

I always debarb my hooks. It makes releasing the fish so much quicker. I don't have a problem with fish releasing themselves, usually. Since the only thing I take are pictures, I want to get fish back in the water as fast as I can. I can net, photo, take the hook out, and flip the net over in 30 seconds without touching the fish. The fish is only out of the water for about 5 seconds while I snap pics. You can take the hook out underwater.

I think it depends on what your using the hooks for because if you don’t have a hook if your line goes slack your fish is more than likely gone

Hey Tim, sensible video. Like the Kaiman vise, is it more or less expensive than a regal? I am thinking about getting one. Haven't decided which yet. All the best, been to your site, really nicely done. Sean

Thanks for the kind comments, Sean, and I'm glad you like the site. Regarding the vise, I really like the Stonfo and have recommended it to others. I am unsure how much the various Regal vises cost, thus am unsure of that comparison. I know that there are Stonfo Kaimen vises available on Ebay through a Stonfo retailer, and would be happy to give you any information you need on it (based on my own experiences). Thanks again! Tim

Hey Tim great vid, just wondering which traveler is that renzetti? I have the traveler 2200
@TimCammisa10 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Jakob; I appreciate it! The Renzetti Traveler is a 2000, and I've had it for over 15 years. I typically use the Stonfo Kaimen now for my regular tying, and bring the Renzetti with me on trips. Are you happy with the 2200? Tim

Yeah I absolutely love my renzetti, I probably won't ever buy another vise. Its perfect.

Jakob Szapowal I said that, too, Jakob! I really love fly tying, and all of the accessories associated with this great craft, thus I know that I will continue to try new ones throughout the future. The Renzetti was a great vise for me, but I have a few others that I have purchased since...so little time, so many fly tying tools! Tim

Can you make fishing vid
@TimCammisa10 жыл бұрын
fishanywhereanytime Thanks for checking, and as much as I'd love to make a fishing vid, I'm unsure if my camera could handle it. Maybe sometime in the future, but for now, I am going to focus on fly tying and the transition to the water. TC

8 minutes on debarbing a hook?
@TimCammisa10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting, Tim, and the video is about both the importance of catch-and-release and debarbing hooks. I know many fly fishermen that choose not to do either, thus I hope that this video helps to give those a gentle prod towards debarbing hooks now, and eventually purchasing barbless in the future. TC

I would never use my vice jaws to debarb a hook there’s enough other options available. I always buy barbless hooks
@TimCammisa Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing, Justin. Many tiers may have hundreds (or more) of hooks that were bought prior to barbless becoming more commonplace and affordable. If unsure of using vise jaws, go with a set of hemostats with flat teeth. I've used my vises to debarb hooks for over two decades, and will always recommend that people debarb prior to tying to ensure proper tempering of the hook. Thanks for the comment.
