Great videos ! I thought I was the only one that did twisted wire ! Although I haven’t done it in several years, I kinda forgot about using it. Thanks for bring it back for me.

I'm a believer of having a assortment of markers in several colors that will accompany the material being used on the hook and one reason is when you run out of a certain thread color the marker solves that issue, Peace.

really amazing

These have improved my tying exponentially. Thank you! Will you all do one about matching wire to hook sizes? I seem to always get confused about what size wire should be used on what size of hook.

The little fibers on the barbs are the barbules... Mike

I think the tail on that quill body fly needs to be just a little longer. 🤣 The marker trick on thread works great except for gel spun thread and maybe some other synthetic threads. I now have some pink gel spun working it's way back to white. Maybe it was the marker I used I don't know. The twisted wire was really cool. Keep the good stuff coming.

Good video, even thought it made me dizzy all that jumping around.

Parts of a feather. The stem is called a rachis. Each of the fibers attached to the rachis are called barbs. The barbules are the finer fibers on each barb. When you strip the rachis of its barbs you get a quill, but just one of the many ways we use the term quill. And just a friendly FYI from a word nerd.

@@AndysFlies thx! Reminds me of the pro rendezvous when guys threw around all the scientific terms that they didn’t know very well. We just use simple tying terms. Tell me what you know about the cuticle on CDL. That one blew my mind.

Great video! I always enjoy and learn from your hacks, thanks for doing them. Question, are you using waterproof markers?
@FlyFishFood28 күн бұрын
@@gregstinogel2217 I mostly use chartpak, prismacolor and sharpie. Markers can wash off a bit but it takes a while.

@@FlyFishFood Fish eat the sh1t out of my flies. I went into your store last fall to buy a new bag of Harrop CDC Jimmy used to sell. Didn't see any, but I was dazzled and distracted by all the fluorescent and neon colors of all the synthetic materials. There's not much in there found in nature. And if it is natural, its dyed in some kind of hot red, bright pink or neon purple colors. Heres a tip. The best dark or brown dubbing comes from the under hair of a chocolate lab. Just dog brush a lab and get the under hair with a few outer hairs. Best dubbing in the world. Better if it comes from a Chesapeake retriever.
