Thank you, Dave, and that's very kind of you to say. I'm glad to help you out with this style and hope you catch some nice fish on them! Be sure to let me know how they work...and some of your designs! ;-) Tim

Those three segment flies really are huge. I make three heads on one length of tubing and make them very small, with smaller mid sections. I have never used hook holder tubing on anything but the last segment as the others are tied in the round (mostly) and with weight you can predict which way the head will be. Therefore they are much smaller and the sections themselves are also smaller. Good luck and God grant you big fish for you tubes. All the best, Sean

Thanks for sharing, Sean Mooney , and the beauty of this type of tying/fishing is the ability to make what is truly needed for the situation. The three segment flies are long, though the one I showed is shorter than the one I fish for pike and musky. Being that you don't use hook holder tubing, do the sections ever separate while fishing, running up the line? I'm guessing the weighted head will keep them near the hook, but curious of your experiences. Thanks again, and hope all is well. Tim

Not that I am aware of. I use a weighted head at all times with the three pieces, when stripping they would stay together. If In doubt use the step down tube to make a smaller head, then just put a know in front of it. Not right up against it but within 1/2 inch so no crazy movement can happen. The flies are effective either way. I have a great time sometimes with trout flies seeing how many heads I can tie on one tube. Protube allows you to put your discs on last. So put them one streamside. All the best, Sean

More tube fly videos please! These videos were great! How easy would it be to tie a half and half. This is usually my go to fly.

I just watched this whole series in a row. Now i am hooked on trying tube flies. Just started trout fishing but want to try steelhead to. Cant wait to get my setup and get started. Is there different materials needed for the tubes as far as marabou and the like? I know the tubes them selves but fly tying is a bit intimidating to me still ask i just started and have a small comprehension problem due to head trauma. But with ur video series as always u break it down really nice foe the very very beginner to understand and i am lovin it. Keep up the great work and glad i found ur channel. God speed in ur further endeavors and cant wait for more vids on this subject if u make more. Maybe some geared more towards trout as i cant saltwater fish here. Thank you for ur experience and sharing ur knowledge.

sappervet1980 Thanks for the comments, and glad you're "hooked" on tube flies! The materials are relatively similar between tubes and hooked flies, thus you don't need anything extra. Definitely get some stuff going for tube flies, and let me know how you make out. You can definitely integrate them to different species, including trout, and they are a lot of fun to fish with. Thanks again for the comment, and for the kind words regarding my videos. TC

Tim, I've enjoyed the series and am in the process of beginning tube tying myself, I had't thought about this until this last video but I'm assuming now that with fishing tubes, you eliminate tippet completely. Is this correct? If so, what would you consider an average leader length and type? Depends on type of fishing? Thanks for this great instruction and inclusion of your resources! Dennis

Thanks for the kind words, Dennis Nickle ; it was fun making the series and exploring tube flies. Tippet is still up to you, and I prefer tapered leaders to turn the fly over. If you are thinking fishing for trout, then you would taper down to your typical diameter (which for me, is 3x or 4x in most situations). An average leader length and type definitely depends on the type of fishing, and for me, if we're talking striped and largemouth bass, then it is going to be around 8' down to 10 or 8 lb. test. The weight increases for saltwater species and the casting conditions. Thanks again for the comments. Tim

Tim, i love the videos so much. Keep up the great work. This is my first comment on one of your videos. Be expecting more from me since we have northern pa in common. I fish elk and walnut creek pretty exclusively. Now, I am very intrigued by tube flies but it scares me. Those tube flies are so big and I am strictly a trout and steelhead fisherman, I would think that flies of that size would be TOO big for my purposes. Also, I like fishing dry flies, is it possible to tie dry flies with the tube fly system?

Colton Owens Thanks for the comments, Colton, and great to know that you're in PA too. I haven't been up to fish those streams in a few weeks, and hoping to if this weather breaks. Regarding tube flies, they are a much larger pattern, and I believe more to be used as streamers for trout. You can definitely use them for Intruder-style patterns with steelhead, though is that your style? Dry flies...I haven't personally experimented with them that way. Thanks again for the kind words, and I hope you comment on other videos that I have posted. Tim
