That tail and complex twist for the body is the first time I've ever seen each of those techniques! Definitely going to give those a shot! Thanks for the inspiration!

I love your version of this streamer! I was wondering how you like your Jurassic, I'm thinking of getting one for my pike fly tying. I'm using a Stonfo Kaiman right now but I'm an older woman and I'm finding it hard to squeeze the jaws for those 4/0 hooks. Thanks for any input.

what's the advantage of putting deer hair on the bottom and the top of the fly instead of just spinning the deer hair around the hook shank? I love the color combination. I think I'm going to tie a smaller version of this. Very nice looking fly. Rubber legs seem to be en vogue!

In order to achieve a color on top and another color on bottom you can’t spin it into place.

@@FlyFishFood the deer hair on top and bottom seems to be the same to me. Maybe I need new glasses 🤓 Thanks for your help 👍

Nice pattern, but why is the copper holographic mylar only on one side of the fly?. Usually that sort of thing is paired on each side, like the rubber legs.

Dean Ransom it’s actually on both sides of you watch carefully he will show how he does it.

Awesome looking bugger Jeff, the tail is very cool. I noticed with each wrap of the body materials you also gave it an additional twist, correct? I know that hook is a standard wire Aberdeen, doesn't it straighten out with big fish on a heavy tippet? I've had that happen with other Aberdeen hooks I've used. Thanks man, that was an excellent tutorial!

I use that hook for steelhead and have never had one straighten out. Those Daiichi's are strong.

You are very welcome. I wouldn't use a cheaper brand Aberdeen, but trust the Daiichi one 100%

It is the Jurassic vise from Peak.Knowm as the LIRS(large iron retension system) Whole different concept.Great especially for the largest hooks with a wide bend.Good tying.

Hi Hank, you and I think alike. Cool wrapped tail indeed. I believe the vise is PEAK's Jurassic, about $320 last I saw. Supposedly holds largest hooks available. It uses a different system to hold the hook. The head rotates 360 but from the looks of it I don't think it's a true rotary. That's all I know about it, except I'll have to ask my CFO if Santa has one for me ;o] Happy Holidays to you and yours.

@@joeduca8582 Hi Joe, I was intrigued with the jaw design on the vice - looks like a beast! After trying a couple of different vises I'm settled on a Stonfo Elite true rotary ( stonfo.com/en/p/elite-vise/ ) . Find them to be very well made/finished from quality materials and reasonably priced. The base is very stable, jaws clamp firmly with only a light pressure on the lever and it came with a bobbin holder and parachute tool. Pretty pleased with mine. Winter has come 3-4 weeks early here in Ontario so I am already tying flies for next season. Hope all is good with you! An early "happy Holidays" to you as well! Hank
