Good video. You can use 2- horizontal output transistors for this . 2-2SD2634's they are high frequency sweep transistors . All you have to do is look up the specs on which transistor you want to use. I like this set up because of the HI. Voltage output you are getting out of that integrated flyback transformer. Your not going to get much more than around 27,000 volts DC (27kv) because those flyback were designed to run around 19kv-30kv tops. If you try to push it past 30kv substrate /insulation breakdown will occur.

tried this with a d2645 transistor at 15v. works well. Edit: just blew the transistor. would it be ok to use d2387? only difference is a lower base current (0.1 A vs 0.8 A) Edit: tried 13007 transistor and it works so well, it doesn't even need a heatsink.

Till it transistor overheats and gets permanently damaged

Well if you are planning to arc it for long use cfl electronic ballast with cooling fan and if you can add heatsinks to the transistors present on the board of the electronic ballast it would give better performance (as cfl electronic ballast is designed to work continously. It's more powerful than some of the zvs drivers out there Also put external 12 turns for primary coil)

Actually they didn't make 8 and 3 turns, but 9 and 4. The wire crossing the ferrite loop counts as one turn. Viewers should add one turn to replicate the circuit.

Woah! I haven't use magnet wire as primary and feedback coil, I didn't know it's more efficient than an ordinary wires. Can I ask what's the input voltage? And why didn't you add fast diode? It would protect your power transistor from the flyback's voltage spike

back when we had to repair CRT's there was a reason we were told to leave the flybacks alone this is why they will kill you fast 10.000 volts in most cases more in the larger units is nothing to play with

And the resistors each have 5w of power, putting the two together you have a tilerance of 10w of power because 5+5 is 10 so in this case you have a resistance of 10w, right?

Can input a voltage more than 12vdc to the circuit or it can take more than that let's say 15vdc cause that's what I have right now

Hi BDm007. What is the purpose of making an extra coil winding on the outside ? Is this possible that you could use one of those pin to connect to your circuit instead of making extra coil ?

On the outside?. I don't know what you mean really but i think you mean those two windings on the Ferrite. One is Feedback And one is Primary. Feedback winding is connected to base of the Transistor, To "Drive it"/ Open. electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/377753/understanding-a-single-transistor-flyback-transformer-driver. look here

I just tried this but I only got around 10k volts at a much higher frequency than in this video. Also without a heat sink the transistors were far to hot to touch after only 4-5 seconds, which makes me wonder if this could be used for any length of time. The website in the link shows a 12v source voltage, I tried at 24v but the transistors wouldn't switch at that voltage so I would probably need different values for the resistors in the voltage divider. Also 5w resistors seem totally unnecessary. My 1w resistors seemed to do just fine.

@@sidewinderam9m Yes, it forms a potential divider to bias about 0.7 to 1v on the base of the transistor.

I have a better way than what this guy shows. I use a horizontal output transistor a driver transformer and a driver transistor to drive the H. output xsistor. I have a horz. Osc. Ckt. That runs at the 15,755hz. And runs the driver hence powers up the integrated flyback transformer. Works great producing a DC hi. V. Of 18,000 vdc-25kv-dc
