I would like to add that the extended body “pin” come in 4 different sizes. I’ve tied extended bodies for #18 flies with the smallest of them. You are using the original pin design. They were originally marketed by Renzetti, but the pins were actually created by Claes Johansson of J. Son Sweden. He has since redesigned them and they are now being marketed and sold through Hareline Dubbin’. I know this because I work with Claes’ company, J.son Sweden as a Pro Staff member. Yes, you can use sewing needles and the like, the the pins are curved and they have a nice spring style thread retainer. I love the EB Pins and wouldn’t be without them.

Can you tell me how you keep the butt end of the foam from spreading when you make your first segment.. are you gluing it before you go to the tool to create the extended body ?

Why do you even need to bridge the thread for hoppers? Seems like wire keeps it in place?
