I bought a Mantus dinghy anchor about 18 months ago and am thrilled with its performance I use it on a 3.6 RIB with a 25HP 4 stroke Yamaha which saves me having to (try) and drag my dinghy up the beach ..... which is impossible! ....... So I anchor it with this amazing anchor . Problem solved! I am also a big fan of other Mantus products. They are well engineered, solve real issues and add a lot of value to our cruising life! Your channel rocks ....... well done!

I LOVE my Mantus 2.5. One of the best uses for it that they never seem to mention is with PWC's or jetski. The anchor lays flat in storage and will easily hold multiple skis tied bow to stern. I have the blue anchor bag as well to keep it from bouncing around and use 5ft of stainless chain. I do use a 7ft bungee anchor line from sand shark when anchoring in waist deep water, I can't tell enough people about how great it is.

Thank you very much! Based on your video I bought this smallest Mantus, my first ever anchor, for my first ever boat, a kaboat type inflatable. This seems to be the best for different types of bottoms and here in Finland I will encounter many different ones.

Happy to see how easy it is/was to assemble/disassemble. Storing it in limited storage space when not used is very important to me.

Great work Steve. A Mantus dinghy anchor is now on my Christmas list. I'm very excited to see how the Knox performs - I just contributed to the tug boat fund.

I have the Mantus dinghy anchor (no roll bar) and I have used it on my ISO Dinghy trimaran and my Spitfire catamaran and it is amazing. Getting my 6m Adventure Trimaran project finalised shortly and will try it on this as well. I expect to have to get a slightly larger one possibly but looking forward to testing it!

I just bought the 2.5# SS dinghy anchor and plan to use it with my 14’ livingston for anchoring overnight in remote places out here in hawaii. Anchorages are prone to swinging boats opposite with current switches and winds usually are around 15-20knts during the day. Im excited to try this anchor but was nervous about the assembly when i noticed the only thing preventing the shank sliding back up the notches in the fluke was a tiny spring loaded pin with loop that could snag on the bottom and free the pin and potentially disassemble itself. Do you think this is a potential flaw or something prone to failure for anchoring multiple days overnight in an anchorage prone to swinging boat and the anchor having to reset itself? Your channel is awesome and hope to hear your input, thanks!

Do you think the rollbar bending backwards provided some mechanical advantage to the dinghy anchor? I could see an intact roll bar acting as a lever to direct the tip upward, while the bent roll bar allowed the tip to stay buried and provided some drag resistance. Food for thought. By the way, I did purchase the mantis dinghy anchor based on this video.

Your hypothesis is certainly plausible. I need to do a repeat of this test with the "rollbar helper strap" fitted. Also a test with no rollbar at all might be revealing.

I am beyond curious if they made one out of aluminum in the same size as the 55+ lb steel models if it holds as well without being so heavy. Why? A smaller boat could mount a larger anchor for more holding without the need for He-Man or a windlass to bring it up.

Very interesting ☝🏽

Interesting. Yes, it seems like the geometry of this anchor is what makes it work so well. Hopefully Mantus will read your comment.

Great test. Do you thing the dinghy anchor would be sufficient to serve as a light duty stern anchor for a boat in the 27-30 foot, 5-6 ton range?
@flygoodwin4 жыл бұрын
In a non-critical role, such as aligning the boat to a cross swell, yes, the anchor could be useful for that size boat. Keep in mind that this (and other featherweight anchors) are defeated by small amounts of weed.

You have one of the very very last of the Record number 3 vices that was made in the UK - I've not even seen one that new. Good vices, later ones were made in China with Irwin written on them. Earlier look quite different with the number always on the right side of the dynamic jaw and nothing made in England on the left side of the fixed jaw, and nothing on the back of the slide.

During all your test which anchor is best for rocky and sometimes coral in south Florida that won’t get stuck? Thanks
@flygoodwin3 жыл бұрын
Michael, I have no experience with anchoring conditions in south Florida. That said, several anchors are manufactured with a "slotted" chain attach point that allows a stuck anchor to be retrieved "backwards". Anchors with this feature include the Manson Supreme, SUPER Sarca, and Rocna Fisherman. Here is a video that I made several years ago concerning this topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6KaaIiCj6isaac

Would this hold up on rocky bottom ?
@flygoodwin3 жыл бұрын
This anchor would be unlikely to bend at typical small boat loads. This anchor (and other 2.5 pound anchors) are incapable of setting in stones larger than about 1.5 inches diameter. However, this (and any other) anchor could possibly be "wedged" between larger boulders and could be bend during retrieval.
