The myriad of button mashing techniques i have seen for this game are fascinating. From "hyper tendon mashing", "finger ripples", "wrist gliding" metal rulers, to pen or penciles seesaw. I'm sure there are more but they are the ones i saw. ppl talk of a track ball ver I never saw it.

I have 2 trackball control panels that I have never installed on my arcade machines. It's too much like using a turbo button. Played them in arcades in the 80s.

Here’s a tip from my Jr High self in 1987 - eat microwave butter popcorn and get the grease all over your index finger. Then just skim it back and forth over A and B. You will max out speed every time. My buddies and I used to get garbled scores because our triple jump and long jump would break the game.

You must be remembering it wrong cuz only one button is for running. That and even at max speeds the highest scores will display with no problems.

I used a small paint bucket used for my toy models as a "speed technique" when is was 6 years old. 22 years later i see this on youtube and think: Fck, i wasnt that dumb afterall! :)

My nails are firmly pressed on the controller, set barely wider than the button and I vibrate just enough for each finger to hit in an alternating pattern. But yes, it's more of a small slide and not really a press at all. My nails never come off the controller. But I also never slide completely over the button. Although I do use that full slide on the Gameboy version and on my Hudson Shooting Watch with great success. I've done 350+ on my Shooting Watch in 10 seconds while sliding.

I used to smoke people in this game on NES by low pro wetting my fingers slightly, then just fingerbang the buttons. I seem to recall clearing 1600 speed, but the technique sometimes wavered.

Tried to duplicate this for another title, but I cant seem to. I'm not sure I understand how exactly it is being pressed twice at each tap

I think it shows it pretty good at 2:41 The key is getting the right spacing between your fingers. Too far and you have to cover more ground. Too close and the second finger might press the button BEFORE the first finger releases it. More than happy to help more if you need it. PM me if needed.

Hector Fly I actually did this move on my PS3 game of Injustice. There is this scene where to get a trophy I have to do some quick time event and one very annoying button smashing sequence. Very useful video, much better than the video with the Xbox 360 controller guy, about the vibrating finger to the button.

It's been years since played but I think you need to have enough speed for the height your in and time the jump right and just tap jump. Adjust the angle after you get high enough with the jump button again.
