Danarius pitted his slaves against each other for the honour of becoming his personal 'bodyguard', being branded with Lyrium being a part of the prize. Even back then (Leto at the time) Fenris just wanted his family to be freed, not knowing that freedom meant no home, no money and nothing to live for in Tevinter. After he won the contest, he asked Danarius to free his family and then Danarius did. The pain of the branding wiped Leto's memories from him and so he remembered nothing.

Anders is simply an idiot , too blinded by his hate for Fenris. He was thinking that Fenris was jealous of Varania's magic, cause that would get her a better position in Tevinter (which wouldn't happen, she would never become a magister). Plus, he really thinks everything revolves around mages.

Okay, I've been wanting this game for a long time, so before I buy it, I want to know a lot about the characters. I've read forums, looked at artwork on it and learned a lot, but never heard the voices of the characters. I squealed like a fangirl when I heard Fen talk. OMG!! He's #1 on my romance list!!!

Well it seems like Fenris competed somehow to be marked with the lyrium... but possibly because it was a painful or life threatening process, the "winner" was awarded some sort of wish of their choice. And he chose to free his mother and sister from slavery, thinking that would be a blessing to them. But his sister explains that life outside of slavery turned out to be pretty difficult as well and they apparently struggled to make their way in that world.

Good scene. We learn that Fenris did it to free his mother and sister. So he always knew freedom was best. Had he not lost his memories and his values, he would have fought side by side with the Fog Warriors, and Danarius would have met his fate much sooner. But we only learn this if Fenris spares his sister.

He lost his memories. And if not than whole romance with him is a lie. And Fog warriors were much later, he fought for freedom of his family before he got lyrium marks.

It's a mod, can be found at Dragon Age Nexus - KZbin won't let me put links in comments but just Google for "fenris jedi master". It will have file(s) you can download and probably instructions somewhere - I believe it's a file or files that you copy to a certain directory in your game install.

I'm pretty sure the writers at Bioware had more in mind than gore when they crafted the storylines and characters of Dragon Age. C: And people tend to bleed a lot when stabbed, so I wouldn't say blood is overused - just liberally applied to make things seem grittier.

For those wondering how Fenris could be a Hypocrite, as Anders nicely called him, because of him hating Mages while his sister is one and pointing out that he couldn't have known it, since he has lost all his memories of the past. If you look at the scene on what Fenris' is focusing on, the way he sounds, it seems like he is not surprised by the fact his sister is a mage but that she sold him to become something evil and destructive, a magister, a bloodmage. And when Anders called him out, he did not respond, similar to a silent "yes". Now, it could be, that the game-guys were too lazy to add an extra scene of Fenris talking back to Anders or the guy who synchronized Fenris didn't really put the right emotions in his voice when Fenris acted surprised on his sister's reasons. Also thinking of the fact that Fenris regained some of his memories, we never know what kind of memories and from who, also that he remembers something when he sees his sister, it is possible he remembered his sister and her being a mage. Or at least the simple fact that she is or could be a mage. In some way that does make him a hypocrite. While I do not think it does. Anders and Fenris are just too similar. If it weren't them standing for the exact opposite side of each other's goals and wants, they could be best buddies.

I don't understand Fenris, however. I understand what he went through, which makes him hate,mages, but he must understand that not all mages are like that. But, i also see it from his point of view: any mage is open to temptation.

He actually does at a few points in the game admit not all mages are bad. He becomes fond of Bethany if she lives. He acknowledges that Hawke/and or Bethany are not weak mages. He tries to legit give Anders real concrete advice about Justice after the quest Dissent. He refuses to turn Anders into the Templars, even when Sebastian says they should. He is critical of mages and magic, but also knows not all mages are that way. That could be Hawke's influence on him and also if you have Bethany around he realizes this. He's literally an asshole about the kind of bad magic he knows is going on and exists. He's not just an asshole because he can be. He realizes not all mages are bad. But everyone always seems to think that Fenris hates Anders. But not nearly as much as Anders hates Fenris. Anders gets friendship if you give Fenris to Danarius.

I like Fenris and anders but i hate how its so hard to get fenris to be loyal. like if your friends its hard and if your rivals its hard to get him to 100% rival. he just makes me so mad sometimes. hes a dick lol. and you cant sleep with anyone else even when he leaves you. It really isn't that hard to get Fenris to be loyal. I can literally max Fenris's friendship almost completely by the end of Act I. Even as a mage. You literally just take him to everything where you could side with the Templars and that will do it. Also being understanding of him and stuff too. Rivalry isn't hard either. Take him everywhere and always side with the mages. Saying he's whining about his past will do it too. His rivalry route isn't as appealing as his friendship route. Fenris in all honestly is an asshole to people who deserve it, and honestly I'd be a bitch too if I were him. There's also the issue of Fenris actually does admit there are mages who are good, if you have Bethany and she lives, he becomes quite fond of her. Fenris literally doesn't even hate Anders as much everyone makes him out to. Anders hates Fenris way more than Fenris hates him. Fenris has every right to be critical of magic cause he's seen the awful shit it could do all his life. But yes, please tell me how he's only a dick. On another note, you can sleep with other people and still romance Fenris. You have to sleep with them before you sleep with Fenris is all. You can sleep with Isabela, then either Merrill or Anders but not both. You can also sleep with Zevran cause he's not even a companion. So, in all it's not that difficult. It really isn't.
