Is there anything cooler than this? Flying a mission with a guy who lived it for real... wow what an honor just to watch and hear the crazy stories... some of them make the game just seem tame. lol. Thanks so much to Don and Drew for sharing this with us, my favorite gamer video ever! It would be sick to make this a thing (unless u already do and I just don't know about it), like having a S.W.A.T team member do a game clearing a building and so on, a jet pilot for that role, and so on, because this was great!

Right around 16:00 you talk about mounting guns on the helicopters. Not related to vietnam war, but my father in law is a machinist for the air force and did the same thing in Iraq, fabricated mounts for getting door guns onto helicopters, often while under mortar fire. First time I met him was the day he flew back to the US. I'd been dating his daughter for a few months at that point. Gotta say I felt mad respect for him and completely nervous. :) Married his daughter though, been married 11 years now. He had some interesting stories about what they built while in Iraq.

Just a quesion: Why you wont ever play Arma?
@dubwars
@dubwars 2 жыл бұрын
@@MaugriMGER It has nothing to do with the game itself, so no disrespect to the game. I know I wouldn't play it though. I do enjoy content from a number of KZbinrs due to their great content, video editing, etc. I'm fine being a consumer while still supporting the creators.

@@dubwars I was only curious. you read quite often that people will never play a game and there are a variety of reasons. But I can say that if you are interested in something like that, you can try it out. In sales you can usually get Arma very cheaply and you can also try out the game through campaigns, etc. The way to Milsim is then not really far and you can usually make connections quickly.
@dubwars
@dubwars 2 жыл бұрын
@@MaugriMGER Thank you for the genuine and honest reply here. It's great to see positivity online these days with so many people immediately cutting others down for not liking or doing what they do. The financials of the game is not a problem for me. What I don't have is the network of friends that also play this title, which would help me in learning the game/actions/etc... that most of the players know these days. It always helps to have friends assist you into a new "world", including gaming.
@MaugriMGER
@MaugriMGER 2 жыл бұрын
@@dubwars You really dont need friends. Sounds a little bit sad. ^^ Arma is a game where you can easily find a group or a Unit to play with and normally they will help you with everything. I have a german Arma Unit since 2012/2013 and we often invite people that are new to Arma. These days Arma units are happy for every new Member because the game is not young anymore and more and more players give up playing arma.

My dad was with the 334th AHC, 1st platoon out of Bein Hoa ('66-'69). He was a part of the team that brought the first Cobra's in country. In the early days most were shot up because our pilots hadn't learned how to maximize their capabilities. Our pilots were use to flying the Huey's and had to get comfortable with the speed and maneuverability the Cobra provided. They also experimented with installing 50 cal's in Hueys to use on sanpans and other boats on the rivers.

As he put it “couldn’t feel my foot thought oh God dammit I’ve gone and blown my foot off, “but he could still operate the rudders so he made it home turned out he hadn’t taken an injury in his foot he had just taken damage on the aircraft right by his feet.

Vietnam was a particularly nasty experience for our country, heroes like Don, that share their experiences are absolutely invaluable to us younger Americans, we should learn as much as we can so our generations don't make the same mistakes and can capitalize on the successes and sacrifices of Americans who came before us...

@@hughescrewchief836 i need subscripts Immediately him. I mean, its hard to find such guy's especially guy's like don in our cloture. In austria 🇦🇹 for example you hear nothing at all. I think in the hole Europe it's totally different. Maybe in the Great Britain but they are not in Europe anymore

So much fun being in a op with you drewski! :) The engineer team was such a cluster because we were told 2 minutes before going in the chopper that hey, youre mortar team, on the flight in were told youre building the fob. many of us never used the build mechanics in SOGPF, we had to learn everything on the fly, didnt know we needed shovels etc but it was still fun!....i was loaded fully to assault etc, not build stuff XD so there was alot of...clustery on us haha

Thought the vet was giving grandpa vibes when he was speaking about “51” caliber but after a little research I found some other vets that called the nvas anti air 51 caliber so I guess it was a similar idea to how in ww2 the us differentiated the different m4 Sherman guns by calling them 75 mm and the 76 mm guns even though they had the same diameter. This would definitely be lost to history because I have never heard anyone call the Vietnamese guns 51 caliber. Please do more of these!!!

No, the Shermans had two different guns. Some of the recoilless rifles got called a different caliber so they'd be easily differentiated though... Perhaps that's what you're thinking of?

That's soooo cool drewski!!!! And thanks to don for sharing what our fathers and our grandfather's ( in some cases) experienced. My dad was in danang from 67 to 69 ( I believe) servicing aircraft of all types for the 365th. I have so much respect for all those who served in Vietnam. And God bless you drewski this video I will watch more them once.

My grandpa was a marine in Vietnam. He told me they drew straws to see stays behind because there wasn't enough room on the evac chopper. He drew the sort straw. He barely made it out alive. He spent the night in enemy territory hiding in a ditch. They came back to get him thinking he was dead but were surprised when he stood up and got on the chopper.
