Flying From New York To Florida In A Piper Cherokee 235

Being a pilot brings me significant joy especially when taking on new aviation adventures for the first time. In this installment of ENTP Life we are flying my vintage 1964 Piper Cherokee 235 from Long Island MacArthur Airport (kisp) to Fort Lauderdale Execute airport (kfxe) over 1000nm down the east coast.
We started this day at 6am but didn't get to take off until 9. Justin, my copilot for the day, came to me via youtube's own mojogrip. My plane was previously featured on mojogrip and that's how Justin and I connect. Join us on this epic ride, take in the views from a mile high, and fall in love with aviation just as I have.
For those of you who are not familiar the Piper Cherokee is an American made general aviation airplane and one of the most popular aircraft produced here. Cherokees are entry level however the Cherokee 235 has a high performance designation due to its oversized motor giving it incredible useful load.

Thanks. They do they need to create a nice speed machine to compete with the other high speed 4 seaters. Although seems Cirrus has that market cornered. I've been looking for a step up machine and leaning towards the Malibu, Columbia 400 or SR22. Ultimately I want to have a 300kts machine.

Wow. Opportunity must. I watched your videos on Mojo's channel over and over. Seen what you did also let me look at the Pipers more as the Cessnas are over priced. Would have loved to fly with you down but someone beat me to the punch. Now your in Florida and further away from up state NY. Hope we get to meet some day.

Cessna are priced fairly and similar to Piper's. There are more Cessnas on the market which would help drive the price down. I chose to go Piper for the look. If I could do it again I might have gone with a piper 180 for fuel efficiency or a better equipped Comanche for speed and avionics. The 235 has its benefits but that fuel burn burns me haha

Flying is pretty awesome. I post from time to time trying to encourage people pick up the skill. You can legit buy a plane for less than a Toyota Camry. Training is a bit expensive but it's all worth it. One of my top life accomplishments.

Cool bird and video! That's a great XC. You shouldn't have trouble finding passengers in FL. With the UL of that 235 you could have flown your house down there. Hey, thanks for your videos. I’m also interested in getting my Private Pilot License. I have looked into it before but haven’t started the journey. I’m in the Atlanta Georgia Area. How did you start and get your license? How do you recommend completing the training.

Hard to answer in comments but first thing you need to do is take a discovery flight. See if you really want to do it. Discovery flights are offered by flight schools. There are many in ATL area just Google flight schools and contact them about getting your PPL and you want to take a discovery flight. They will all be priced the same. Also ask what aircrafts they have in there fleet. Another method is to find independent instructors...usually they are members of flight clubs. SEARCH flight clubs ATL and you'll see them.

@@Karl__Pierre A Lake could land on a runway or on water, most interestingly, it could land on water, extend the wheels, and taxi out onto the beach. Furthermore, when flying over water it would present a much better selection of emergency engine-out landing options. Could be a nice trip from Florida to Brazil.

Hey man I'm an aviation lover and always wanted to become a pilot but flight school are so expensive that is just better to buy a plane and hire an instructor to teach you to flight, I live in miami but I drive to Oakland park to visit my girlfriend twice a week,maybe we can get to meet one day

That's one way to go about it. Especially if you find a group of 4 more student pilot's. You guys can pool your Cash, get a secured loan and buy an ifr capable Cessna 150/172 or a Cherokee. I say the 150 bcuz of super low fuel burn. In a few weeks I'm going to publish what I think is the most cost effective way to get your ppl. Also I'm available to meet just let me know when you have availability and we can work something out.

I trained at academy of aviation and global aviation. If you want to train on a cessna g1000 or diamond go with aoa if you want to learn in a piper go with global. The most important thing is that you like your instructor and will get enough time together to finish your PPL. Godspeed

@@oceanairbrush everything is more expensive. The annual, fuel costs, and maintenance. I bought the plane as a student pilot with dreams of taking regular long cross country flights loaded with my buddies. So the useful load and range rarely get utilized. For my typical mission, 1-3 people 100-300nm the 180 would be perfect. Another thing is you don't get much speed out of that HP and fuel burn. 14gph for 135-140 kts is unacceptable in modern aircraft. I would say a comanche would be a better purchase than 235. But if you're debating 180-235 and your mission sounds more like mine go with the 180. My next aircraft is going to be a malibu or TTX I want more speed. And when the stars and moons align PC-12

Did you stay at the same altitude the whole time ? How do you deviate from all the planes that are flying to jfk and lga ?

No we varied altitude. For JFK you can request clearance through the airspace or fly above or below the airspace I chose to request clearance...after Newark nothing else really will be an issue. I also requested VFR flight following so you're always in contact with air traffic control advising of traffic and airspace restrictions. Are you a student pilot?

Ohhh I know it's awful. I just moved to fort Lauderdale and that room has tiled floors and bare walls .... so tons of reverb. As I fill it up with furniture and soften the room some the sound will improve also that mic is my backup mic so it's not the best. With in the mouth the acoustics will be better. Check back and let me know if it's improved.

Sure. Piper 6 is a nice bird. Hard to really advise other than really know your mission and priorities. When I was looking for my airplane I wanted something that can do long legs 800nm* and carry 4 passengers. Turned out that my typical mission was less than 200nm and less than 2 passengers. So I have a more capable plan than needed. Now I'm most concerned with speed and IFR equipped. Next aircraft will be SR22, Columbia 400, or Piper Malibu. As for buying if using debt get your approvals squared away from the start so you know exactly what you are working with. Do a thorough pre buy and try to buy something recently out of annual. Make sure your typical mission is satisfied. It's very common to start lusting over other aircraft. Keep me posted with your progress?!
