The way out only exists because the camera render distance does down the further it zooms in. If you see the rainbow background there's usually still stuff there. The computer just doesn't calculate it because it would take too much time.

Adding the Ant-Man (shrinking and growing through an microstructure) doesn't actually change much as they would be held in the centre most section of any given passage and would be repelling and attracting the structure in such a way that it would appear to be viewed through a distorted lens, but any change they made would revert as they moved on... To see where this all started, do a search for "Mandelbulb". It's basically a regular 2D mandelbrot set, but symmetrically repeated in 3 dimensions in a very particular way. These visualizations are appealing because they can be zoomed into the same as their 2D counterpart, which earlier attempts couldn't do.
