I'm actually a student at CFI in Camarillo Airport, I'm still pre solo and with my former instructor we did 3 night fights down to that area!!! My first 20 hrs i was really struggling with the fear of heights because the stalls shook me up BAD so we just did some cross countries to get used to it!! I got 3 night fights, 1 to Torrance, 1 to john Wayne and the other to long beach! We even got a day trip to avalon before he went off to ATP but You're right...it is a very unique place to fly, i wish i could share some of my pics with you!! We did ground reference maneuvers around the dodgers stadium and DTLA!! I'm getting better with the stalls and steep turns and my new instructor says I'm doing absolutely fantastic so it keeps me motivated!!! I'm very fortunate, i get to fly a 172s with a G1000 and i love that plane, 573ND, i know its a long shot but if you're ever up over kcma on a Saturday around 12-5 ( my usual reservations time) chances are it's me on the radio's!! Kinda small world! Funny thing is I saw one of your other videos and when you we coming to the area i head one of our instructors on the radio!! He always says SEE YA and instantly, i knew that was Jake 🤣 my new instructor is Ben P and he an absolutely incredible instructor and pilot

Hey man! I’m so glad you’re getting past your fear of heights and of course the all time hated “power on stalls”! It’s going to take some time, but you will become phenomenal at this pilot thing. Always learning, and willing to try new things to challenge yourself. All the CFI’s there at Channel Islands are great, and I love KCMA in general! Such a great little airport and people. Keep up the good work man, it’ll all pay off!

@Cirrusly-Sean thank you, my flight got canceled today but I'll be back up the 31st for some pattern work, I absolutely love night landings, I think I got something like 35-40 ish night landings and only around 15 day landings! I greatly prefer night flights, vfr is so much easier for me, I can see other aircraft miles away so guess I'm just one of these weird ones that does better at night🤣 I just wish I could take my check ride at night!! Thanks for the reply and fly safe out there!!

Truth be told, I love landing at night! So weird, most prefer daytime flights and landings, but as long as there’s good lighting on the runway, it’s absolutely beautiful and fun!

Ya, with enough hours he will be able to tell the airspeed in knots just based off of the wind noise. I fly a C-152. Even at 70 knots the wind noice is pretty loud.

Helpful video. Thanks for posting. I’ve been flying 10 years in LSA. Mostly uncontrolled airports in northern and central CA. I need to learn and get comfortable with flying from Bakersfield to Long Beach. I like the SFRA corridor you took over LAX. Let me know if you have any tips or gatchas to look out for. I know I have to study all those rules and study all the airspace around there. My main concern is that I’m not familiar with the local landmarks. I’ll try to study Google earth to familiarize as much as possible. I just need to do it a few times to get comfortable with the flow.

It is very straight forward actually. Just make sure your are following all the rules like I said in the video (which is in the Visual Chart Supplemental of ForeFlight). Call out your locations as you fly over! Super easy!

Curious why you left the fuel pump on.

I was told by my flight instructor that Cirrus has decided that all of the SR series planes need to keep the fuel pump on. There has been issues I guess with engines shutting off in flight, so I just leave it on like the newer models.

@@Cirrusly-SeanThank you. The POH agrees that you leave it on until well established in straight and level flight. I only asked because I’m training in a 172 and just purchased a SR22 (literally today). I’ve flown one 5 times. Incredible machines.

Man that’s awesome! We share the same story. All my training for private was in a SP model 172. But I love my plane so much lol. I just flew a 182 with retractable gear today, working on a complex endorsement. 😅

Fly as part of a SR22 G6 shared ownership club here in the UK. We hit the prime button when starting, then over to pump, then leave it there until we've landed. I'm led to believe most SR22 owners fly this way.
