Australia loves a duopoly and that leads always to absolute minimum offering to the market, with maximised profit for the shareholders. If QANTAS were to lose its government contracts and handouts, and if Super funds sold their holdings in aviation, AND if predatory behaviour against competition was monitored, we might have a healthy domestic aviation sector.

Did you ever find out why the crew members needed the privacy curtain closed?

I am fairly certain that you had an Auckland NZ based Crew hence why I am not surprised the service was good, mind you our Cuzzies aren't bad as well. As for the curtain being closed, the Flight Attendands are alowed down time especially as the Brisbane turn around back to NZ can be short.

Think the prices are all in AUD. Jetstar is great when it's on time and it works. It gets the other name when they cancel your flight the day before with zero rebooking options

Aircraft don't have staff rooms like the rest of us to have a break, so the crew draw the curtains for some privacy. Also, I don't want people watching me eat. That makes sense.

We are 70yo pensioners, we only fly within Australia, we always fly Jetstar, low cost and can choose add ons if we want to...

I mean you get what you pay for on Jetstar, it's pretty basic but considering you can get 50 dollar flights from Avalon it's worth it. I haven't flown them in quite a while but I've always had nice staff members. I would love to see some more competition in the market but the Virgin-Qantas duopoly just seems unbreakable.

West Australian resident here and Qantas is in a sad state , much of their fleet is tired and old. I'm at the stage where I fly Jetstar now and just pay for luggage and extra legroom , it still works out cheaper than Qantas and I get the new A321Neos. Their staff are young and enthusiastic and as long as your flight isn't delayed , Jetstar is just fine. Also known as Crap Star too. Realistically though beyween my city (Perth) and Auckland, Air New Zealand is the best choice, on their 787's, for the 7hr flight.
