Thank you for watching this video guys! I wanted to make a quick note here regarding my comments on the 757 retirement. Firstly, I've based my knowledge of those in Facebook groups who have visibility over Manchester airport scheduled departures for future months. They mention that as it stands, 3 aircraft, Alpha Charlie, Alpha November, and Alpha Echo are leaving the fleet by the end of November. I have no idea how truthful this is, and there is no mention of Alpha Juliet, Alpha India, and Alpha Kilo leaving the fleet yet, although rumors suggest January at the latest. My comment on LSAI having a "few weeks of service life left" is based on the fact LSAI spends most of its time on the ground, only flying when there is a high density route on particular dates. Compared to other aircraft that typically fly daily, with a presumed retirement date of a few months, I rounded it down to "a few weeks". I'd like to remind people that aircraft have a shelf life dependent on cycles; you could have a 737 which operates on short haul routes which retires at say 20 years old, but on the other hand a 757 operating longer haul routes may be retired at a much higher age, in LSAIs example this seems to be the case. An aircraft being "old" doesn't mean it is immediately unsafe, I often see pilots or maintenance personnel refer to older aircraft as "Triggers broom", meaning parts are replaced over their service life and the only thing that actually is old is the frame itself. You can tell LSAI has been looked after, benefiting from EFIS LCDs, being kept clean and with a fresh cabin, you cannot tell this plane was built in the 1980's. Jet2 are a fantastic airline and despite the 757s having their fair share of issues this year, safety always comes first with them from what I can see. Let me know if this video led you to fly on one last 757 in the UK, recent news has mentioned Icelandair will be phasing out their fleet in favor of the newer and more efficient 737 MAX. The 757 will missed hugely by everyone!

Great vid. We went on the penultimate BA 757 flight from LHR to EDI over 10 years ago. The captain was given permission to do a full power take off. As the 757 was so over-powered most take offs were at between 70-80%. Well at 100% we were up in the air after a take off run of only about 11 seconds. Incredible.

Manchester airport is shocking and they used real cheap materials for the upgrade with lack of escalators to go down to the gates. The 757 was very nice to fly in the 80s with Monarch, Air Europe and later Air 2000 and felt powerful and with a nice bright interior, especially compared with the older 737s, 727s and BAC 1.11s at the time. The 757 even had inflight entertainment and TV screens fitted in the ceilings. Unfortunately the fuel burn and maintenance costs are very high and its all about trip costs these days. Will miss the 757 as a revolution in air travel in its day. Favourite memory was sitting in the flight deck landing into Malaga , back in 1988 with Air 2000’s brand new 757 at the time.

The last time I flew on one before this trip was Alpha Golf back in 2016. I believe back from Croatia. If I’m not mistaken we were actually flying to LBA. Even flew one with the short lived Air Scotland! Always a good flight and comfortable. Is it noisy? Well, in today's aviation, sure, but it has character and is more exciting than the soulless A321 replacing it (although, it doesn't really replace it in all aspects). Myself and a friend once booked a return flight on the same day with Ryanair specifically to catch one of the last 737-200ADV flights in the UK. Sadly, a week before the flight they altered the booking in their system to have us flying home the next day and charging us double the original price to change it back. So we had to cancel. I'm glad this trip worked for you! I'm super jealous.

We are based in Yorkshire yes! How much were the fees at LBA for takeoff and landings with it being a largely commercial airport? Must be fun seeing all the bigger aircraft in and around. That sounds like Jet2 to me😁

@@TheFlightSimHub It was a VERY long time ago now! I'd guess about £50 then. My Instructor (at Sherburn) was 'famous' for doing a Solo-Cross-Country test flight in a home-made, single-engined plane to LHR!! Wonder how much Concorde was charged to land at LBA?! I once landed at Prestwick and realised I had about 2 miles further to taxi along the runway! I was asked to 'expedite my taxiing'! I asked if I could go in front of a big orange Braniff and the pilot replied, 'You can ******* go under me if it will make you any ******* faster!' He would have been aware of avgas costs, I guess!

Enjoyed the vid. 👍🏻. I had the great pleasure of flying the B757/767 for 20 years before my airline famously went bust in 2019 and nudged me into early retirement. A wonderful machine and great fun to fly. Lots of excess power. It’s a real shame Boeing didn’t didn’t develop the B757 instead of endlessly stretching the B737 into the Max. The highly economical Leap engines would’ve fit nicely under that wing without messing with the undercarriage.

I remember going to Egypt on said airline back in 2015 on a 767, I must say the CRT televisions in the aisles really felt like a blast from the past😁 It’s a massive shame Boeing chose the 737, and I read from another 757 pilot that Boeing destroyed all the jigs used for developing 757’s, so even if they wanted to restart production they couldn’t. Thanks for your comment mate and really glad you enjoyed😊

@@TheFlightSimHub I did many flights to SSH and HGD from the main uk bases so it might have been me 😀. There’s a KZbin video from MentourPilot explaining the full reasons for discontinuing the B757 which is worth a watch. Keep making videos my friend. 👍🏻

Im flying to Turkey with Jet 2 next monday, no idea what aircraft type, according to flight radar the flight number im on uses a mixture of 737, 757 and A321neo.
@discoveryshuttleАй бұрын
Another thing: I got myself on an A321 NEO in August to Tenerife (G-SUND) and I got a card from the cabin crew mid flight as I was pretty much the only avgeek on the flight🤣and I also got a cockpit trip and the captain I spoke to said "I think January is the last one [757s]" so it's looking likely they will all be gone around the start of next year😥✈
@TheFlightSimHubАй бұрын
Honestly I could go down the rabbit hole of hating that A321N for replacing the 757 but in reality, from what I’ve seen, it’s a cracking bit of kit, no 757 in terms of range (Unless of course it’s the LR or XLR), and slightly smaller and poorer performance, but they’re leaps ahead of Boeings offerings in the “mid size” market aren’t they. Only issue is I’ve seen plenty complain about Jet2’s seat pitch. How did you find the seats on the A321N? Cabin and flight crew in this video I tried to not video, but they were all brilliant and they loved chatting about the 757, the captain mentioned he’d be retraining on the A321.

We were in one of Jet2's 757 on our flight from Manchester to Malaga. I checked the flight on FlightRadar24 and noted that it was over 35 years old! I told the wife about the age of our aircraft and she said "Thanks for telling me! That's not very comforting is it?" I said "Well at least we're not on a 737 Max!" BTW The aircraft's toilet brought back memories. It was one of those very old type if you know what I mean.

I kept my mouth shut boarding the aircraft although someone did take notice because of my camera. I ended up barely using the DSLR I have because the footage from it just doesn’t compare to my iPhone. Anyhoo, he did ask what I was up to. I just said I liked planes😄

Thanks for the kind words mate! Absolutely worth it id say. Last flight is scheduled to be 5th January Geneva to Manchester, definitely a bit expensive but I’m sure you’d get a good video out of it. I was debating going out on the EasyJet flight on the 4th, staying overnight and flying home on the last 757 service.

@@TheFlightSimHub I was just pricing this up, £300 is a bit steep. Looking at a quick hop to Alicante in December for about £50 which is slightly more reasonable. Would be a pretty fun event to fly the last one though, I imagine the atmosphere would be amazing full of like minded people plus a load of folk who have no idea what's going on!
@TheFlightSimHub28 күн бұрын
I agree the atmosphere would be good. I also agree £300 for an overnight stay in a hotel in Geneva and a trip back isn’t ideal. Plus you’ve no guarantee the aircraft will be the 757, it’s all subject to change.

Is there a new home for these Jet2 757s if so who is the new owner, surely they wont be broken up? I recall If you want a quick exit at the arrival airport dont go in rows one to fifteen? they hold you back to let the passengers from row 16 off, rumour has it if you let the front passengers off the wheels leave the groung🤔😁🤤 On a trip to Tenerefe recently on the new Airbus neos the cockpit had two captains and a first officer, i guess still training.
@TheFlightSimHubАй бұрын
I think all the Jet2 757’s are end of life. Most of the TUI ones went to the cargo world, the Jet2 ones are decidedly older and more used. All of their prior ones have been scrapped now. Row fifteen was a choice for the perfect engine shot. I knew I’d be waiting for everyone to deboard if I wanted a look on the flight deck anyways. How was your Tenerife trip? I’d love to fly on one of the new NEOs, I’d imagine they’re still line training to transition crew from the 757 and new starters of course. Exciting times for Jet2.
