I've been living here over a year. It's pretty, but there's a lot of things that make it not so great. Tons of petty crime, lots of traffic, many locals can be unfriendly (this part got better once I learned and adapted to their culture here more). It can be hard to enjoy the beach when you're more worried than normal someone will snag your things or break into your car. I've seen smashed car windows and thieves a couple dozen times. My truck was also vandalized when I first moved here. It's also really, really, expensive.

Too often I get caught in the daily rut and associate Oahu with the rush hour congestion on the H1 freeway, especially westbound in the afternoon trying to get from downtown through Aiea and Pearl City. I stayed at the HILTON right there by the building with the green roof. The last day of our dream vacation the island got shut down due to COVID. @@mikeee7425 I lived on Kaua’i , Oahu and Maui, working in hospitals as a temp. Kaua’i was my favorite , easy to find quiet beaches and people get to know each other easily there. Residents of neighbor islands want nothing to do with Oahu. Too much traffic, too crowded, all too much for them.

A lot depends on the time of week and hour. I visited Oahu in 2017, and many of the beaches were so crowded (on the North and South shore) that it was difficult to find parking. Previously, the last time I had visited was back in the early 1990s, and things were radically different then. Oahu has grown leaps and bounds since then.

The best flight over Oahu for me was in the mid 1980s when I took a Honolulu flight schools "intro" $20, 1/2 hour lesson. One runway so we lined up behind jumbo jets taking off. The jets go over the ocean. The Cessna went over my Salt Lake condo on to Barbers Point then back over to Hono. airport. Where he let me help land. "It was cool as heck". Aloha Friday, You All! I lived in Hawaii for nine glorious years between 1982 and 1991 while I was in the Navy stationed at Pearl Harbor. I know it's changed tremendously since I left, but the beauty of the islands will always be breathtaking and awesome. The best memory of my years in Hawaii? I just have to say that as a Hawaii photographer/videographer, besides being beautiful, this video is technically mind blowing. Can't even imagine how long it took to film and edit this masterpiece.
