Brilliant video. Am I the only one to think that there is an irony in the fact that the modern electric trains (at the start of the video) are branded "LNER", while the Flying Scotsman (no longer in her LNER livery) is in British Rail livery? I love the fact that the diesel was unhitched and Flying Scotsman ran as she was meant to - under only her own steam.

Wunderschön, gepflegt und blitzblank der ganze Zug. England hat noch eine gepflegte Eisenbahnkultur. Beautifull this Train. Britannia is top in Railway Kultur ! This Loc is a wonder of beauty in all. Mit welcher Leichtigkeit sie diesen langen Zug, nach dem Anfahren, beschleunigt ist allein schon eine Spitzenleistung.

Lovely engine sadly I never saw her type when I trainspotted there in the late fifties as a kid. The magnificent A4s where there of course and they used the turntable and left an engine at the buffers. Some of the nice drivers would let you on the footplate and give you a ride up the platform and stop and let you off at the end. Wonderful days.

I just caught steam's last gasp. I saw Lord Farringdon blast through Grantham, chime whistle on through the station. "Streak" went up the cry as schoolboys rushed to the end of the platform. From then on I was hooked

Good video ! Scotsman was due to stop at Huntingdon, but since it said on the steam info website it was cancelled we didn’t go to the station to see it, 😞
@bangerbangerbro3 жыл бұрын
Really? I don't remember seeing it down as cancelled on the website? I saw it in Huntingdon though not from the platform. I saw two of the "lest we forget" inter-city 225s as shown in this video come in at roughly the same time as the Scotsman so they can't have been much different in pace. Those were also stopping at Huntingdon along with some azumas at the time because of track maintenance or something so there was a lot going on.

Good to see the some of the new arrangements at Kings Cross - presumably controlled from York now. A few more 47s will put a stop to the nice clean ballast! It looked like a brisk, clean start for Flying Scotsman as well. I was surprised not to see the 47 ‘on the tail’ when watching the departure. Evidently no electric heating requirement for that set.

Poor quality coal apparently, couldn't keep the boiler pressure high enough. She was running solo without the back-up donkey on the back. Not sure why, as shown above it was there at Kings X . We all love to see these old ladies on the main line but if they cause that much disruption then it's not helping the cause.
