A few thoughts. First is to look at the thinnest piece of metal on the fishing swivel. That will be the part that breaks. Second, after filling the sand bag, place it in the hole you just dug out. If you are going to anchor off the line, wrap the line twice around the sand bag, set the bag in the hole and then use a twisted larkshead to attach to the carabiner. Experienced kiters would also carry a two foot streamer to attach to the flight line at eye level. as you know, beach goers spend a great deal of time looking at their feet and will walk into your line unless distracted. The shore patrol in their pickup truck also needs to know where your line is at, hence the streamer. Finally, it is a good introduction to the kite.

I just bought this based on your recommendation. It's a beast. Test flew it today. The difference in pull from say, 8 mph, to 12 mph is exponential. Really tugged hard on the line at times. Definite lifter kite....but 200 lb line is probably the lowest I'd go. I'm going to start lifting stuff (camera rigs) in the next week, hopefully.

Well explained.Thanks Evan. Have you had photo success with combining kite with sizable balloons on the same tether?
@EvanReinheimer Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Not a balloon and kite on the same line, but I have used a hybrid kite/balloon called a Helikite. A company called Allsopp Helikites from the UK (I am pretty sure they are still around) makes a variety of these for different applications. They may be useful for the applications you had mentioned to me via email. They are very friendly and helpful, if you decide to reach out to them.

What size kite should I be looking at to fly a GoPro? I would like to tie it to the tail of my kayak and I think the kapfoils look perfect for that
@EvanReinheimer9 ай бұрын
The KAP Foil 1.6 would be more than enough for a GoPro. You could even use a slightly smaller flow form style kite.

@@EvanReinheimer I am completely new to kites, and have just watched four or five of your videos 😁 and I’m really excited about the possibilities. Ideally, I would have a kite that once I put it up in the air maybe 20 feet above the kayak, I could just kind of leave it. Edit: I will go Google flow form style kites
@EvanReinheimer9 ай бұрын
@@chrispalmer1255cool! I’d recommend flying the kite higher than 20 feet before attaching the camera. This will allow the kite to fly normally and be above many low altitude wind disruptions (like trees) and also give you some recovery time if the winds change. I usually fly 75-100’ up before the point I attach the camera to.
@chrispalmer12559 ай бұрын
@@EvanReinheimer gotcha. Good info… I assumed that the camera had to be mounted under the kite but now it seems the camera can be anywhere along the line?
@EvanReinheimer9 ай бұрын
@@chrispalmer1255 yes. In fact, the further down the line, the better in many ways. It will allow you to keep the kite in the air to attach and detach the camera. Also, the kite will fly much better with the camera down the line. The whole thing will end up being much smoother.

Nice presentation of this kite. For me however I would use a daisy chain knot for the bridle and I would dump the metal hook on the flying line in favor of a lark's head knot to attach the kite to the line.
@EvanReinheimer6 жыл бұрын
Daniel De Rudder thank you! Yes, it’s important to point out that there are different methods for attaching the bridle. Both are effective, I like the hook because it’s a little quicker.

@EvanReinheimer Жыл бұрын
This one can fly in 25mph wind but it will pull pretty hard. They also make a KAP Foil 1.6 that may be more manageable at higher winds. I have a Paul’s Fishing Kite for very high winds. You can see details on that kite here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWiok2eKdsqEapIsi=ukJwN5GkKezOPjBD

I like that you’ve added links to your equipment, but several of them are no longer linking to a specific product or are no longer available. You should probably review all of your video description listings and update the links and products to the most current gear and rigs. I’m a drone pilot primarily, but there are places I’m unable to use a drone due to restrictions and NFZ’s, including all National Parks. I’d love to be able to capture video or at least photos with a kite that I couldn’t get otherwise. I’ve been reviewing all of your KAP videos figuring out how to get started without a whole lot of DIY engineering piecing together a KAP rig.
@EvanReinheimer4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for letting me know about the outdated links. I will work on updating them this week, I appreciate the heads up! KAP is a great solution for circumventing drone restrictions and also a fun activity. If you are looking for a KAP rig kit brooxes.com is an excellent resource if you're in the USA. For Europe, kapshop.com is a great place.

@EvanReinheimer6 ай бұрын
Possibly. You can try contacting HQ Kites through their website to find a distributor in Thailand.
It has its benefits and drawbacks. One downside is that there is nothing keeping the kite open to the wind other than the wind itself. Therefore if theres a drop in windspeed or a cross breeze collapses the cells, it can be hard to get them to open back up and catch the wind. With a framed kite, you're usually able to pull on the line to keep the kite up.
@anzaeria10 ай бұрын
That is indeed a big drawback. I like with my Levitation Delta how I can pull on the line when the wind drops to get it back up. So what course of action would you take if the wind drops while you're flying the KAP Foil and you see the shape collapsing and the KAP rig begins to fall? I guess you have a back up plan in this type of scenario. @@EvanReinheimer
