It's a priviledge to watch an aircraft such as this being displayed... thank you. I equally enjoy more dynamic displays where they are permitted. As long as the pilot has regard for power issues/sensible use of energy, these displays can be equally as safe.

The closest i've got so far was chatting to Caroline Grace on the apron of my flight training school at Leeds Bradford where ML407 was parked for the night. If it wasn't for Britain bastardizing a P-51A by dumping the Allison engine, lengthening the Engine cowling/mount, then adding the Rolls Royce engine, the 51 would have been a low level reconnaissance plane and no one would have know what it was today. By adding the Rolls Royce, we (alliance) had a thoroughbred. The Rolls Royce was later produced under license by Packard in the states being called the Merlin. Now we (alliance) had one hell of a fighter. The Spitfire saved Great Britain and the 51 stormed Germany. Thank you Great Britain for everything!

I'm from Lincoln in the UK. We're used to sound of Merlins here and cherish every second we hear them! Throughout summer I often have the BBMF (Battle of Britain Memorial Flight) fly somewhere nearby which will be the Lancaster Spitfire and Hurricane. beautiful flight, please look after her.

I see a spitfire being flown over my head many times a month. It’s flying from Headcorn Airfield in Kent with a paying passenger (they do look ugly with that 2nd seat). I know it way before I see it because of the sound of that engine. It makes my day every time. When watching this wonderful clip, my thoughts turn to the pilots of so many nations (British, Polish, Czech, Aussie, Kiwi, Canadian, American to name a few) who also took off like this but never to return.

I'm a pilot and the first model I built as a child was the Spitfire. Never got to fly one but I did get to sit in the cockpit of one at Reno a few years ago and I was very surprised at how cramped the cockpit was and how poor the forward visibility is while on the ground. I looked at the CAF pilot and told him I thought I could fly it and he said sure you could, now get out.

You can go up in a 2 seater but it's expensive, around £3k for 20mins.

You could get a nice gaming PC, MSFS 2020, a VR unit and the payware Spitfire that's being shown off all over the place on the platform. The same 3 grand but you could do it whenever you want at just the cost of the electricity. XD

neighborscomplaint The Merlin was NOT perfect, it lacked an adequet oil pump, and strong enough con rods and untill the Bendix pressure carb used cut out in a quick bunt into a dive, and it was a maintainence nightmare !!!! not perfect but "Good enough"... Packard solved the oil problem, larger volume/pressure oil pump and Bendix pressure carb plusa few other "Improvements !!!

Amazing video! The closest experience I will ever have to fly a Spit. British engineering at its best for that time, this tiny plane saved the day together with the Hurricane. A great demonstration of stability is the testimony for a great shooting platform. Congratulations to all those who maintain this plane. Thank you.

David Hadfield is a Canadian singer/songwriter, author, wilderness adventurer, classic-boat sailor and historic aircraft pilot. He is also the brother of Canadian astronaut Chris hadfield . Had the privilege of working on the Y2K Spitfire as well as the P51 of mike potters collection. Its niece to see this aircraft finally take to the air after years of restoration.

I was treated to a tour of the heritage hangar at Biggin Hill for my birthday. An absolutely amazing experience for anyone who has a passion for these aircraft.. the highlight was being allowed to sit in one...as I settled in to the seat I felt the tears just roll down my face... It is impossible to describe. I swear I could feel all those who had sat in her all those years ago. It was an honour, privilege and as someone else mentioned, it is the most beautiful killing machine ever built. Please, if you are in the uk, it is worth the trip to Kent to support their work. Priceless for the memory and to smell the cockpit is just intoxicating. I cannot thank and admire all who flew in the war enough... you brave brave men and women. Thankyou.

WW2 occurred a few years before I was born. But I met dozens of true Combat Veterans throughout my childhood and teen years! Of poor health myself, I have never served. BUT, to this very day, I never miss an opportunity to met, shake hands with and THANK each and every Vet I can! The men and women who served back then (my Mother-in-law was a lady Marine!) truly were Americans GREATEST GENERATION! And God Bless every one!

My father, Lt John Hogan, DFC, 2 Squadron, SAAF, flew Mk IX's in combat in the Italian campaign. It was great to see what he would have experienced in flying Spitfires.

If you were a Luftwaffe pilot unlucky enough to be shot down...it was always a spitfire that got them. there was a certain snobbery being hit by a spitfire and not a hurricane even though there were far more Hurricanes in the Battle of Britain period......

I was born near kenley aerodrome in Surrey it was one of the airfields used in the Battle of Britain and through the war ,and as kids we used to roam around the empty barrack buildings ,and later when it was used as a base for glider pilots a spitfire was placed at the gate as a memorial and most days I walked past it ,,now I get to fly in one what an amazing sound ,

Such a wonderful feat of engineering and craftsmanship. If I was super rich I would own two of these. One for me and one for my brother. Rigged up with lazer tagging guns. For fun. With sound effects too.

More and more I find myself absolutely thrilled by the sight, even a sound of a spitfire makes me want to shed a tear, there is something about these craft that hits something deep down. I spend so much time in VR with some nice HOTAS Flight sticks and learning to fly these beautiful things. Understanding the sheer detail to keep these in the air is just amazing.The dream to be in his shoes, if i ever won lotto, I know what I'll be spending my time on.

Thank you for showing what a real pattern looks like. I have seen so many fly out there for miles ( literally) and it's infuriating. I was taught that a pattern size is governed by if you loose your engine you should be able to get onto the airport. Being that it is a beautiful Spitfire made it all the more enjoyable.

one day I will fly in a spit, its been a long held desire , along with a flight in am english electric lightning , borne out of air show days at RAF St Athan as a young lad with my dad and brother in south wales . Those memories leave a lifelong impression on you, along with spits flying over my current house on the way to and from airshows . briggsquamtum More $hitfires were destroyed in ground handling accidents/take offs/landings that the enemy destroyed, narrow unstable undercarriage, a compromise to less weight, have fuselage hold landing gear rather than wing !!!

Perfectly straight on touchdown! British planes had their props turn COUNTER-clockwise, for the same reason that they drive on the wrong side of the road. So you take off with LEFT rudder instead of right.

The Merlin turned clockwise, the Griffon turned anti-clockwise. To take off in the Merlin-powered Mk IX you had to dial in full Starboard rudder trim.
