Flying to Mackinac Island - Flying to Oshkosh 2019 VLOG (Part 5)

We fly to Mackinac Island. One of my favorite 7.Zero videos. A day before we fly Oshkosh, we take a day to visit Mackinac Island and cross over the Sleeping Bear Dunes. It's a historic tourist island with a literal Grand Hotel and no cars are allowed on the island. All transportation is by horse, bike, or... of course, airplane. This is our last stepping stone before the great Oshkosh Arrival. Thanks for all your support!

If you enjoyed The Grand Hotel, do yourself a favor. Rent "Somewhere in Time" (it's a movie) starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Watch it with Ivette. It's a older movie with romantic plot and a time travel twist. About 9 minutes into the movie, you'll recognize why I suggested it. I think you'll enjoy it.

I’d love to chat with you about your audio and video recording setups. I swear I have nothing but problems trying to record flights with audio. I now use a 10000 mah external battery with all my cameras so they can record an entire flight without me having to fiddle with them. I also don’t want them to only record for 45 minutes before dying. Running them this way also presents its own problems. If the cameras have an internal battery the camera cannot decide if it wants to run off of the internal battery or the external battery. Sometimes the gopros will think they are overheating when they in fact are not. Go pro tried to fix this with the firmware update, but it still happens occasionally. As for the audio, I use NFlightCam, but when you use this while also using an external power source, there is a massive audio delay that needs to be realigned to the video in post editing. You supposedly can overcome this by starting your camera recording before plugging in the line-in audio, but then only occasionally will the camera automatically switch to line-in audio priority. So you always have to check it. I swear the preflight for my camera system is more involved than the preflight for my airplane. But it still seems like every flight reveals a new audio video issue where something didn’t work right, and the footage is more or less useless.

It’s awesome to watch the trip you two are on. I have been following your channel and story since I first saw Ivette take her first solo down at Paragon in Ft. Myers. I have to tell you that was the video that inspired me to begin working on my PPL. My home airport is Punta Gorda as is yours and I am 3 months in with 37 hours, preparing for my checkride, next week I think. 🤞 Enjor the rest of your trip and I can’t wait for part 6.

7.ZeroProductions absolutely would love to. After I get through my checkride we can figure out a way to meet up maybe at the FBO or something. It was awesome to hear from you and hope we can fly together soon. I have flown RC for about 25 years so it has been an amazing experience to fly full scale.
