Nice video! Actually the RAF didn't build the runway. They secured a lease from the State of Michigan and maintain the grass strip.

Man, that looks so completely different than it did when I used to fly into S Fox in 1984. First of all, it was so overgrown--not the airstrip itself but the area around it. If it was a windy day you got tossed all over the place as you landed. I specifically recall the pilot who flew us in and out chanting under his breath: "I hate this f***ing island, I hate this f***ing island, I hate this f***ing island..."

This runway was not created by the Recreational Aviation Foundation of North Fox Island. It was created by the notorious Francis Shelden. It had been neglected before efforts were made to reopen it by this group. Their continued efforts to keep it maintained should definitely be applauded despite the dark history of that Island.
