Today it was my duty in ICU in KC General Hospital Bangalore(Specific Corona Center F).It was 12 hours long duty from 8:00am to 8:00pm. As I entered from specific entrance for Doctors to ICU.I prepared myself with PPE. It wasnt easy to wear those tight fitting mask, those suffocating kits, the shoe covers which keep irritating my shoe all day long and how can I forgot that double pair of gloves which(when I wore them off)made my hands like patchy and itchy. It was long hours duty and tiring as well.Yes the constant fear of being in contact with suspected corona patients.Well here and there I had to do my duty. From Vitals monitoring to Medicine chart maintaining to arranging blood pints to starting the blood transfusion to not finding proper seating to eat food (so we ate food standing), no water, no proper washrooms and yes how can you take your PPE off then asking for another (already short on resources).I did my duty. Besides this one thing I really want to appreciate our nurses n all paramedical staff as well specially the sweepers who just don't offend even while cleaning the patient when their own attendants don't want to touch them. When 12 hours of duty over and I was finally taking my PPE off I can't tell you how red and rashed my face was cx of wearing that N95 for long hours, weird flaky hands and feet.& yes how can I forgot that constant itching on my face and arms cx our Doctor's Room had no fan in it with alot of mosquitoes. My body was aching and tired like anything and well it's not over yet, like when I came back home I still can't take rest in fact I had to go straight to take shower with Dettol without touching anything. And when finally I'm on my bed to have a cup of tea the hosp, patient and ICU running through my mind constantly and while taking sip of my tea I was unintentionally tryna taking my tight mask off which I'm not wearing now but still feeling it on my face. I guess this is what Hippocratic Oath is all about. This is which makes us Heroes without cape and Angels without wings. This is how one saves lives wile risking his own.This is how "Doctors" are.
