The reason behind Chelsea's selling of youth academy players is likely related to the clubs balance sheet. When you sell a player from the academy you're exchanging a pretty much worthless active (the value of a player in the balance sheet is given by how much they're purchase value was, which for academy players is often close to 0) by they're selling value. In the case of of previously purshaced player, when you sell them, you lose their 1st purchase value in the active balance and replace it with the selling fee, meaning that the active of the club only increases by the difference between purchase and selling fees. But with homegrown players, you get an increase in active part of the balance sheet of the totality of the selling value. Hence, the desire to sell these players.

I actually think that Vincent Kompany will do well at Bayern Munich.
