I went to Prague in 2019, early January. It was so magical. It was my first time traveling outside of the US and I went by myself. I got an apartment right next to the city center where you got the chimney cakes and I absolutely fell in love with it all. One thing I wish I didn't do was drive into Prague, as beautiful as it was driving from Berlin to there. Storing a car there is incredibly expensive and driving is nearly impossible, as I am accustomed to wide open streets and highways in the US. I was in a constant state of anxiety driving through narrow cobble roads with an inch of clearance on either side in a $100k Mercedes rental. All that being said, one of the fondest memories I have is walking through the old city with a cup of hot "Christmas wine" (not sure what its actually called, but it tastes like Christmas). It was like being in a movie or a good book.

I spent Christmas in Prague on a family holiday in 2013, it was really nice. We bought turkey roll and pudding from Marks and Spencers at Wenceslas Square and made custard in the kitchen of our air BNB. In the afternoon we went for a walk and fed the swans on the river.

Czech Republic has much more to offer than just Prague. Your should plan a roadtrip here some day. South Moravia with its wine, culture and amazing castles is amazing for example. Greetings from Brno, 2nd largest city in CZE :)

I've been to Brno and I quite enjoyed it. It's definitely not as exciting as prague but prices are way way lower especially for northern Europeans it's like heaven haha and it does have some very nice spots. Plus it's not overcrowded by tourists. I've also been to a stalactite cave close to Brno which was one of the most fascinating experiences of my life :)

I think for most European countries Christmas Eve is the day you celebrate Christmas, that's when you get the gifts, eat Christmas dinner and everything. Where I live Christmas day is the biggest party day of the year, by then people are already tired of the family so everyone goes out at night! You meet all the friends that have moved away and are home for Christmas so it's really fun!

If you’re still in Czech, I highly recommend the dish Sviečkova na Smotane. It’s a tender cut of beef served with a very delicious root vegetable and cream sauce, bread dumplings, and a bit of cranberry sauce. I spent Christmas in Slovakia. We had a traditional meal of chicken soup, turkey and pork schnitzel, fried fish filet, various other meats and sausages, potato salad, sauerkraut soup, poppyseed bread pudding, etc., etc. Not sure where to go for New Year’s festivities. Was intending in Paris but the transportation strike is on. Planned to catch a bus to Florence tomorrow but we spent today, “St Stephen’s was Day” at urgent care for my teen’s swollen eyes/allergic reaction. Any recommendations of cities for 2020 new year’s celebrations?
