This makes me so happy ! I'm literally crying happy tears at the moment. I've been following you guys for years, And now I finally got the opportunity to see you visiting my home country. I'm so happy that you enjoyed Copenhagen during Christmas - the best time of the year. Glad Hunter enjoyed Æbleskiver! And yes, Jess, you are eating Smørrebrød in the correct way. If you want any advice for you next trip, you should definitely come to Skagen, which is the northernmost town in Denmark at the tip of Jylland (Jutland). I also think you would enjoy Aalborg (4th largest city), Viborg (one of the oldest towns in Denmark with a beautiful Cathedral), Silkeborg (large town with beautiful nature), Aarhus (2nd largest city). And this is only to mention a few of the highlights. The nature is beautiful by the west coast If you want any more advice just let me know! Love from a huge fan of yours - Line

We loved Denmark! If you ever go back - go to Billund. It's all things Lego and it's super easy to get around. We stayed at the Legoland Holiday Village and there were cute cabins, playgrounds and BABY GOATS. It was magical. Plus Legoland and the Lego House, which is epic.

@@lorettachin1137 I wish we could have explored the town a bit more but it was still really cute and the people were some of the kindest people ever! Of course we were there for the brick...if you're doing Legoland, there's a great app which you can download which helps you navigate the park, tells you wait times, and even gives directions to rides or restaurants. We found it really helpful. Yay! Have the best time!

I usually get really frustrated when I see people travelling to Denmark and only going to Copenhagen. I am Danish and from Jutland and I rarely feel like Copenhagen is a decent representation of Denmark. It’s part of Denmark and therefore a part of what you can experience in Denmark, but I feel like there is so much more to the culture (and its very different) from what you see in Copenhagen. I'm excited that you are thinking of doing a road trip in Denmark and I just want to give you some recommendations. Arhus is the biggest city in Jutland and the second biggest city in Denmark. in general, it’s not that different from Copenhagen, but there are a few things I would recommend. Den gamle by is a museum of how Denmark looked like through the years. You physically walk don’t different streets and experience the different decades. Another thing that people rave about is Aros, which is a big art museum, but personally I don’t care for it. Odense is the city of H. C. Andersen. It has a very cozy center, but not much more. Fyn is in general very chill. The whole west coast from Skagen to the German border is beautiful and I would advise everybody to go there, just be careful if you want to go in the water. There are lots of bunkers as well and museums about WW2. I Especially love the northern part of Løkken and Skagen. Skagen has wild seals and Løkken is an awesome place to surf. There are also lots of different zoos and amusement parks. I would recommend Randers Regnskov, Skandinavisk dyrepark, Djurssommerland and Fårup sommerland. Of course there is also Legoland, which I am not the biggest fan of, but it’s probably different for a foreigner. In my opinion it just sucks that when people think of Denmark, they think of Copenhagen (if they even know where it is) and I don’t think I’m alone in that feeling about my home country. That being said, I am myself going to take a big road trip around Denmark this summer, since my boyfriend is coming to the country from the US for the first time, and he needs the biggest personal guided tour I can give him.

@flyingthenest I get it, Copenhagen Is also an experience in itself and I know that it's hard for people to experience everything the world have to offer. Hopefully you will come back one day and explore the more unknown places of Europe.
@muttli Жыл бұрын
I get what you mean, even as a Copenhagen native. I do however thing a lot of it has to do with the simple fact that most international flights land in Copenhagen. So its natural that people visit Copenhagen instead of Aarhus for instance. It's quite a train ride to get there, especially if you only stay for a few days. But yes, there are some really incredible places all around Denmark..
@eniepigen Жыл бұрын
@@muttli It does make sense, and there is a lot to see in Copenhagen. I think its exciting that they were talking about doing a road trip throughout Denmark, if they ever are coming back, is the right way to do it.

Jess, you nailed the pronunciation of æbleskiver! But your pronunciation of tivoli made me giggle - it's "TEE-vuh-lee" but fast. Smørrebrød is a stable for lunch time in Denmark. Not always fancy, for every day we keep it simple, and for special occasions we make them more fancy. A summer roadtrip is a great idea! The islands of Fyn, Thurø, Langeland, and Ærø and all the tiny islands in between are all connected by ferries and absolutely one of a kind to experience, with lots of old old houses and long, deserted beaches.
@inbetweenplants Жыл бұрын
As a fellow dane I totally second this comment! If you want to experience Denmark you have to go island hopping! It's absolutely magical and my aussie husbands favorite place to go on holiday (Especially Ærø). Try traveling by bike - even if it's a daytrip. You can rent bikes with childseats on them or a christiania bike where you sit in the tray infront. Aarhus is also beautiful and a lot different to Copenhagen, but out in nature is where it's really at, I would say :) Such a contrast to Australia. If you do go to Aarhus consider also visiting the area around Silkeborg and Himmelbjerget. In Aarhus it's worth visiting the old town, Moesgaard museum, the forrest next to Moesgaard, AROS for the rainbow and DOKK1 for the playtime for Hunter.

Hello.. Dane here.. U should really go to Randers Regnskov. A rainforest in a small City called Randers in northern Jutland. Amazing to see! A must see if u go to Denmark. 3 different spheres of rainforest enjoyment! Besides that, you should really also go see HC. Andersens house in Odense on Fyn. There is a museum there honoring his fairy tales quite close to his home. Else, there are TONS of places to see in Denmark. We also have Skagen, where u can see 2 oceans meat each other at the tip of jutland. Really fun experience and a nice walk on the beach to the spot. Maybe you are lucky spotting some live seals. Well.. thats my take on what to see..

They have a small section with activitied for children too. Egeskov slot. A lot to see, and many activities, also for children. Den Game By (The Old Town) in Århus. Old town houses from all over Denmark have been collected here. Some are from he 1600's. Ypu can see how poeple lived in the past. They have a section from 1974, and is working on one from 2014. If you return in the summer you should rent bikes (get a cargo bike or one with a child seat). It's the best way to get around in Copenhagen. Check out CopenHill which is in biking distance from Nyhavn across the bridge. It's a waste facility with a year-round ski slope on the roof. It's free to visit. Take the elevator up, and walk down. Then set course for Reffen food market which is quite close by for lunch or dinner. It stays bright until quite late in the summer.

If you ever come back here maybe try to go some of our smaller cities which aren't too influenced by tourism to see some more of the authentic Denmark. But i still have some suggestions; -We got some beautiful beaches in Nordsjælland(Tisvildeleje beach, Hornbæk beach etc.) -Frilandsmuseet (The open air museum) Where you'll experience the countryside of Denmark a 100, if not more, years ago. Heatherhill / Tisvildehegn / Melby Overdrev are all nature areas / forests in Nordsjælland - Absolutely stunning! -Møns klint is also a breathtaking sight, 6km coastline of limestone and chalk cliffs. -Jutland is also very beautiful and we got Vesterhavet(North sea) with a 500+ km coastline. -We also got quite a few old castles. And a dish to try is our national dish Stegt flæsk med persille sovs (Fried pork breast with parsley sauce) 😉

I'm glad you are enjoying our capital. Looks like you got to see a lot of nice places. Just a little note: Danish (or Wienerbrød as we call it) isn't breakfast. It can be sort of dessert to it. But we tend to have Rundstykker on the weekend. Fluffy buns with a crispy crust. Served with butter, and cold cuts or cheese. That or something oak porridge or youghurt. Actually porridge has become very hip again, and served with fancy topping in Copenhagen. Or so I have heard.

I can’t believe I’ve been watching y’all since before you had a baby … and know your baby is talking!!! Wonderful episode. My dream is to visit Denmark. Hopefully soon.
