Amazing. This was the only thing that worked for me in my Chevy Sonic 2013. Will the EEPROM removal effect clock memory? That’s all I care about losing. Presets don’t matter.
@lostmymind20108 ай бұрын
@@reedharrell5279 I'm not 100% sure but I would think it would. If you know/think about the BIOS Battery in a computer this EPROM is similar. The BIOS Battery maintains the date, time, chipset, fan speeds, and others. The EPROM is maintaining similar information. So if there is not constant 12V to the radio the entire time then you will even loose your clock. Again I'm not 100% positive on this.

The radio gets locked if power is removed. If the theft lock was set to secure radio. Should be able to swap into other cars no problem, and simply "unlock" it, by calling the 1-800 number and use a dealer code to get the unlock code. Then simply set up youre own security code, and when ever you disconnect battery in future, use own code to unlock. There are also a lot of scanners that have ability to program and set up these radios. The 1-800 number is meant for dealers only, but there are people here giving out the dealer codes.

WARNING - What he has done is to rip out the EEPROM (flash memory) that stores the radio security code AND the preset stations. This chip predates USB flash drives, storing only a few thousand bytes of data. He risks serious damage - these chips are SOLDERED to the board. Ripping it out with pliers can lift off/break copper traces on the board, killing the radio.
@JohnSmith-xx1lx2 жыл бұрын
And what do you suggesting, Nothing.
@jackburton26802 жыл бұрын
Either way your radio is inop, either cuz it's locked or cuz the thing is broke during the chip removal. The latter at least provides some chance of it working
@tsquischАй бұрын
Late to the party, but in case someone else come across this later - the fix to that is just to remove pin 8 from the chip. For those that don't work with electronics to know, pin 8 on a 9355093, is the top left corner pin that's over the first 9 in the number. That removes the power source to the chip, without potentially damaging more of the board.

What he forgets to mention in the video is that this will completely f*ck up your radio and it will basically be brain dead. You can see when he turns the volume knob or pushes the preset nothing happens.. well that’s what I’m dealing with on this stupid nice radio I’m trying to put in my car from my previous one, both GM and use the same radio. But after removing this chip it very well could TRASH your radio that you probably paid $100+ for if you bought it unlocked. GM’s security system is bullshit. It doesn’t inconvenience thieves because nobody is stealing these. It only causes grief and headache to the owner if they want to update their GM radio but can’t because of this tyrant security bullshit. I bought the car, I should be able to reuse my radio if I want to. SMH

will all the other functions work after removing the chip? I have a used radio to go into an 05 silverado. I've already tried holding the scan forward and 5 button while pressing the power button on. The radio does turn on, but only the volume knob and tuning knob (not the seek or scan buttons) will work. The cd player also works if you insert a disc. I understand pushing these buttons is only a "test" mode. Just want to make sure all the other functions will work after I remove the chip (fader, balance, auto eq, auto vol, etc...)
