I have a 71 boss bought it when I was 16 back in 1983.. still have the car and believe I have one of the nicest one in the country.. actually showed the car in the late 80s.. still absolutely perfect condition.. only has 7 thousand miles

The 71-2-3's are coming up nicely in value. When I drive my '72 Mach around these days it seems to attract more interest than it ever has. My son drag races and for fun I entered the Street Trophy Class one weekend and had an absolute blast. While I was staging the announcer gave a really nice introduction and description of the car. It's almost like maybe it's time has come. It ran 8.8's in the eighth.

We all did stuff like that. My Brother In Law a Marine, specail ordered a 1970 Grand Prix, Black 455 HO 4spd MANUAL with a S.O. 2.08 Posi rear. Topped out at 140 from the factory. Had 81k on it. He wanted an automatic so stupid as I was passed it up and convinced my 16 yr old brother to buy it for $350. Ran excellent as he was a Millwright. Today that car commands over $100k, as there were less than 500 made as a manual &455 HO. Fastest car I've ever driven. My Brother sold it to another kid who blew up the engine a few mo later. WE can't even talk about it we're so pissed at ourselves. Sold my 68 Black Chevelle SS 396 4spd same way. TOO Cheap!

I have a baseline 302 R code Mach 1. It's really nice, kinda hard keeping the plastic junk in good shape. I don't know the values right now in 2021, but i think they should be around 20K. I'm 75 years old and thought of selling the car, but the kids want it in the family. I have shelves of 71 parts in storage as I started collection in the early 80's. Nice video !

The best of this style from 71 through 73 would be the 71 Boss 351, which prices have gone through the roof. So if it's an R code 71-72 or Q code 73, these are the next best options, and if you can get the 429 and a 4 speed the better. The price will fluctuate up and down in the short term but in the long run the trajectory points up.

I think it’s all in the eyes of the beholder. If that body style is your thing it’s what you’re willing to pay. Thing is these cars and nice ones are getting fewer and fewer so five years down the road it could be going for $5k more. If you want it for your own pleasure or resale will determine what you should pay. Finding the right buyer could be tough or easy. A guy who had one and is looking for one will pay more. The market is so uncertain. I myself like this body style but I like older more but older is becoming out of my price range so this wouldn’t be a bad substitute. It needs TLC so high teens is a good stopping point.

It needed work but I let it go for 13k. You can find them for anywhere between 18k for a nice car up to 100k for SCJs. Happy hunting. They are out there and they are popular

I got my 73 for $13.900 two years ago . It’s an original car no rust paint is really nice. She has a couple of scratches not bad. As far as looks she turns heads and receives a lot of compliments every time I take her out. The only reason I got it is because I had one in my early 20s . I’ve always kicked myself for getting rid of it, it turned out to be my favorite car. Forty years later I couldn’t stand it no more so I broke down and bought this one. My first one was white with black stripes and it was a Q code. This one is ivy glow with argent stripes and it’s an H code. I’m keeping it stock that’s the way I like it. As far as wheels the magnum 500s are nice but I like the beauty rings with the center hub cap better. Plus that’s the way this one was born with.

Right. The automatic kills the interest and price for most classic and muscle car enthusiasts. But, I love the color and would have the hood and wheel wells repainted. However, once you get into that much paint it might require an entire re-paint and a good paint job isn't a cheap date.

Considering the time and money it would take you to build one of those I'd say you got a good deal. After everything was said and done it cost me $14,300 to build my 73 and that's including the price of my car. It would have been about 17,000 but I got deals on a lot of the parts. I did all the work myself too.
@jesse75

Your explanation confirms what I believe. In my small town, my two daughters ride their bikes and look around. They found two 71's sitting in a front yard. We went over and I talked to the owner of the cars. One is a Cleveland 4 speed car the other is a 429 scj. Even though I can do all the work to restore them, my daughter's and I just finished a 67, it isn't worth it when I can just buy a car for $20 to $30 thousand already done.
