As a 30+ year Mechanic , the biggest thing I see with modern Ford engines and most modern vehicles in general is extended oil change intervals. Most modern Fords go 10,000 miles between oil changes when using the oil life monitor system… No gas engine , especially turbo charged will survive with 10,000 mile oil changes.

@@gabee3464 the power boost seem fairly good . I have relatively the same opinion on all . Hybrid vehicles . They add a lot of complexity to a vehicle . The drawback is more to go wrong . But it depends on your goals and uses. We have commercial delivery customers . Operating mainly in urban environments . That love the fuel savings of hybrids

I've been a mechanic for over 45 years. I've been a lifelong Chevrolet owner. I live in Texas and I have worked for Ford and Chevrolet dealerships. Due to Chevrolet's refusal to fix their lifter issues I have decided to go to Ford that is what I'm driving now the 2023 F150 5.0 . It's bulletproof and he's a mechanic. Probably using his truck for work. So you actually get better mpg when towing or carrying heavier loads than the 3.5 even though the 3.5 has more torque. And turbo's just add unnecessary heat under the hood in full-size trucks. Unless it's a turbo diesel. Diesel engine blocks are made of steel. 2014 f150 5.0 bought new has worked 5 days a week hauling 5000 pound trailer, just hit 160k miles and the only issue the truck had was a water pump at 75k other than that Oil changes, brakes and tires. Been the most reliable work truck I’ve ever owned next to the diesels.

I have had the same experience with that year and a 5.0. I have 158k on my 14 stx sport supercrew. Oil changes, brake pads, tires, the coolant y pipe and batteries. The 6 speed transmission is so reliable. I may keep it in the family no matter what I get next. Id bet it would see another 100k miles if I chose to drive it that far without a major assembly failure.

I have a Gen 1 2.7 ecoboost with 175,000 miles 15% dirt roads with zero issues. It’s been a great engine! Edit : 195,000 miles and still doing great

I have the same f-150 with the same 1st gen 2.7. It is a great engine and still running strong. Im live in Canada and have about 160k miles on it. Between hauling, idling, short and long trips the truck have not disappointed at all

Changed the spring secret...get the piston to TDC, lock the crank from turning, using an air compressor fill the cylinder with air. Yes, they make adapters. Now, when you release the spring, the valve will not fall into the bore due to the air pressure. Replace the spring and release the pressure.

I’ve got a gen 1 3.5 with 464,000 miles on it and love it. The manifold bolt broke, the lead rail in the tranny was replaced 380,000 but everything else is original and still running 100 mph across the country. I hate the 10 speed transmission, my brother had one and it skipped gears all the time it just sucked. I personally love the 6 speed 465,000 and still going strong

@@joncooper8652 as far as I can tell is as long as you use a good oil and filter these engines last a long time. The first issue I had was the water pump at 280,000 miles. The rear doors wiring harness is the only irritating problem I’ve had and it breaks about every 100,000 miles

I have a f150 2nd gen 2.7 with 145k ‘miles and have had zero issues. I tow a 9,500lbs boat trailer a few times a month and have had zero issues.

I have a gen 2 3.5 ecoboost, I did the cam phaser upgrade myself. Love this motor as it is tuned by 5 star. Best bang for the buck. But..... my friend bought a 2011 new with a 3.5 ecoboost. He owns a performance shop. He does his oil changes, with moble one synthetic. Not only has he never touched the motor, he tows a 28 foot trailer with a race car, golf cart, big freezer. I can bet it is above the maximum tow capacity. I was dumb founded on how reliable that motor is. It makes me believe that oil changes with quality oil makes the difference

I think there’s got to be some truth to that… I’ve got a 2011 3.5 at 230,000 that’s running like a TOP. The majority of the last 100,000 miles I’ve put on it, it has been pulling a 5,000 lb trailer. BUT, I’ve been on top of my maintenance including oil changes every 4,000 miles… We’ll see how much longer she turns! The only issue I’ve had was that I ended up having to replace the water pump at 160k

If the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 is so good and wayyyyyyy too reliable then how come Ford didn't put the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 in the Super Duty as a base gas engine?

@johnpeters9793 Cause the 5.0 isn't designed for the Super Duty which is why you need either the 6.2L BOSS V8, 6.8L Gas V8, or the 7.3L Godzilla V8. Also the reason Ford didn't put the EcoBoost in the Super Duty is because if they didn't the EcoBoost would ne stressing itself out by using more boost in the turbos and plus having to do more complex stuff just to make the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 work in the Super Duty would not only cost wayyyyyyy more money to develop but also would be even less reliable than ever and would cost you an arm and a leg to just replace the turbos as well as replacing the manifolds and the cam phasers, don't believe me then go watch Scotty Kilmer and he'll tell you the real truth about turbo engines ingeneral. Also the almighty 4.6L SOHC 2V Modular V8 in the Ford Panther Platform (Ford Crownvic, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car) will outlast any EcoBoost engine with ease as well.

The 6.2 is one of the most reliable engines Ford has built in the last 20 years. We have four of them in f250s with bale beds that feed cattle all day every in mud and snow. Run gravel roads with very little highway miles. They’re bulletproof.

I have a 17 5.0 king ranch 2wd with a 5 star tune and it’s a beast. Replaced the torque converter and heater hose. But she keeps on going. 160000 miles and the 6R80 holds up

Got a 2017 F150 2.7 bought new. Absolutely NO problems at 100,000. Actually the whole truck....replaced tires and brakes, did have a caliper sticking and replaced that. That's It! Love this truck

I have 350,000 miles on my 2013 5.0 F150 super crew and it still runs like the day I bought it and I tested both motors when I bought my truck new. The Ecoboost was a little faster but sounded like a sewing machine and at the time it had a bad reputation for motor problems that I wasn't willing to roll the dice on. I knew I was going to be keeping my truck for a long time and that the Ecoboost with its reputation wasn't going to last as long. IMO the Coyote 5.0 is one of the best motors Ford has ever made.

Gen 1 - 3.5 with 215k miles I get 14.5 towing 6,000lbs Changed the waterpump, heater hose, thermostat, and thats about it. Maintenance is the KEY.

I have a 2016 3.5 gen 1 Expy el. Almost 180k. Water pump, coil packs, turbo cooler lines. That's it. Amsoil every 8-10k. New trans flush every 30k. I agree, diligent service will pay you rewards.

My brother in laws 2011 3.5 ran thru 250k, but it did sound like a turbo was ready to go kaboom at that point. Not bad though, he kept his foot in it. My 2011 5.0 was good til I sold it in 2020 at 150k. Replaced a rear main seal at 115k, but that was it. 2020 5.0 replaced it, 60k so far no issues so far.

My neighbor son is a FORD General manager & he swears about how good the 2.7 is. Also what's so Ironic is he always say the 2.7 is the only engine he never see for problems only major problem is leaking plastic oil pan

130 thousand miles on my 2014 3.5 ecoboost got it new and have done my oil changes every 5 thousand miles synthetic with motorcraft oil filters. I like it its still running. Glad I got a 14 with the steel body.

I prefer the driveability of that gen... Cam phasers are an issue, and other than getting the latest parts and spending 3-5K on labour, doing frequent synthetic oil changes, using FL500s filter AND if its been sitting for a while, hold the pedal down and let it crank until you get some oil pressure before you let her fire up. Yes the 1st gen does have issues with those stupid turbo fitting, and the exhaust manifold bolts... touch wood I only had the former issues, but they were pricy for no real reason other than labour and poor parts. The 5.0 coyote from 2011 -> 2016 is probably the most bulletproof engine in the F150 lineup... and though I love the 2.7, its just too bad none of these things hold up like a Tundra.

I purchased a used 2017 F150 5.0 2wd king ranch super crew used and I love her. I replaced the torque converter and a heater hose and she has 160,000 miles, with a 5 star tune. Added 2023 tremor shocks up front and air bags on the rear. She has never failed me. Great power and the 6R80 has never given me issues

My 2019 3.0 has 121k, so far so good. I get 27 mpgs. I drive mostly highway at 60 mph, not Interstate at 70 mph.

In 2019 I bought a 2014 F150 FX4 Supercab with 40,000 miles on it. Has the 5.0 1st generation. Love it. Your video is excellent. I’ve always been strict about changing oil at recommended intervals. Change mine at 5,000 miles; I do mostly city miles, stop and start every mile or less. You’ve armed me with knowledge of what to anticipate or look for. I’ll watch more closely for oil leaks. Took me 45 minutes to watch your video; I kept rewinding to take pen/paper notes! 😼

This guy is epically full of shit. He literally states all of the issues are from lack of maintenance. So blame the engine? Silly. I was a Ford tech for 20 years. They were great engines. I did see several broken manifold bolts but all the manufacturers have that issue. There are so many techs who decide something is bad because they work on them alot. Well, they sold millions of the things so maybe you will see lots of them?

I have a 2012 3.5 Eco with 137K that’s only needed a fuel pump after 6 years owning it. It’s been through plenty of towing and snow. I do full synthetic every 4k miles.

Ford engines don't even call for full synthetic. They call for synthetic blend.

@@BrandonMingerink that’s just a minimum requirement but the oil filter is the one thing most people forget about. A synthetic media type filter should be used in these engines because of the small oil passages in certain parts of the engine and internal engine components. The filter that’s offered in these quick lube places only has a 40 micron filtration which is fine for some vehicles that are older and change the oil every 3,000 miles. 40 micron filtration is not adequate for these variable valve timing engines, especially the turbo charged engines. 40 micron carbon particles are what build up in those passages,on the back side of the valves and in the turbo chargers. A synthetic blend oil with a synthetic oil filter changed at 5,000 miles is adequate for 150,000 miles or more depending on the quality of the oil and filter, and driving conditions.

my 3.0 diesel has been the best truck i've owned. Crazy fuel economy on the highway, and i've had no issues. I had more issues with my 6.2 F350, and my 2011 5.0, but my 3.0 has yet to fail me even one time after 5 years and 127,000 miles. Just have to keep up on your maintenance, use good fuel (add lube), and run it. doesn't burn a lick of oil, and runs as smooth as it did on day one.

Fellow 3.0 owner here. Went from had two 2.7EB f-150s (company vehicles) and I loved them but the diesel has that torque right when you want it. It is NOT SLOW and I've been getting 26mpg mixed driving. Reliable, smooth and I just hit 170,000kms (110000miles).

I remember a long time ago (probably around 2006) I was looking for a car and a salesman was trying to get me to look at other stuff that's not in my price range. So I felt like he was testing my gangsta. 😂 He walks me over to a Mini cooper S, it's a 6-speed. So he pops the hood and I'm looking at it and see a supercharger on top of it. So I challenged his knowledge about the engine and asked him "What's this piece on top?" he tells me know doesn't know. I ask him "What does SOHC and DOHC means? What displacement is the engine? This truck has so much utility and you didn’t mention pro power onboard. I live on a farm in NC and this truck has powered my house multiple times when a bad storm knocks the power out.

How often do you change the oil? I just bought a 2014 3.5 ecoboost and was really excited about it until I saw this video. It has 100k miles and oil changes (on the carfax anyway) are around every 10k miles. I'm hoping I can just do oil changes every 5k and I'm going to take a look at the intake valves and clean them if needed and that is enough to get me through 50k miles without problems. I plan to upgrade before 50k miles anyway, and I also want to be confident that it is still going strong when I sell it.

@chimpletcum9349 all variants of the modular.. some early 5.4 2v had an issue with the spark plugs not being torque fully from factory then ripping the threads out.. and the 3v from 05 up actually won awards for their reliability, albeit they also had spark plug issues breaking off because of sparkplug design and ford recommendations of 100k service intervals which those plugs should have been changed at 50k and some cam phase issues... but most 5.4/4.6 are still running with North of 500k miles.. examples taxis, police cruisers, work vans construction trucks. List goes on

you have to take it from his point of view. he's a tech, they only see bad things. my 3.5EB has 189k and never had a crazy issue. my valve cover does leak, but not enough to make me worry about taking care of it yet. my turbo coolant line on the driver side has started to leak slowly, but it's winter and i just keep the coolant topped off every 2 - 3 weeks, it takes maybe 16oz to bring it back up. i'll take care of it come spring, but other than that, solid since i've owned it.

I’m 60, have 12 cars, 4 cycles, etc…I have never had a bad vehicle and have no allegiance to any brand as they have all been good. I’m on my 8th F150 (3 have been 3.5 ecoboost) and the 9th (Powerboost) gets picked up next Thursday. Most have only been 150k mile trucks because I use them for work and I get bored, but several of my other rides have 300k miles as do some other F150’s we have at work. General rule is 5K mile full synthetic oil changes and keep them clean. Other than that, I use them to the max…I drive aggressive, donuts, disable traction control, tow, 4 wheel, overload, etc. Not sure why people have so many issues…I never have any.

If you run a turbo ecoboost engine in full boost, or near full boost mode most of the time (to drive around the larger, heavier truck chassis), the mpg will actually work out to be less than the "traditional" V8 (6.2 or 7.3 gas). And for the guys that do work their 250/350 trucks hard, the poor little "hair dried" ecoboost suffered premature failures, complaints of poor power, and for a truck engine, where you typically want your power band on the low side of the rpm range, you had to "scream" the little ecoboost (rev it at high rpm) for it to make the power to get work done. @omar4032 first thing you do is drill a 16th hole in the intercooler keeps all the moisture out of the combustion chamber. This is because the intercooler is in the wrong location. 2nd don't drive the twin turbo like an old lady they need to boost. 3rd change the oil every 4 thousand miles...add 1 quart of pure synthetic Lucas in every oil change. Use Motorcraft oils only....4th change the LEAD FRAME immediately...5th watch it go over 700 thousand miles on original motor....

As a tech I like your clips, never over the top and pretty straight forward and well presented. I have the 2020 F150 with the 5.0 and the 10 spd, engine is great but the 10 speed I hate . I tow a lot and it never stops shifting, while it is super smooth listening to it drives me nuts. I would much rather the 6 spd. I have tried to drive it in manual mode and it still annoys the hell outa me. Old or new oil changes are key to long life and low trouble, I change my diesel and my 5.0 every 6ooo miles regardless of what the oil life indication tells me. It saves money in the long run. Keep the vids coming , they are great .

Love my 15 2.7! Its a rocket and I still get 19mpg city 24 hwy. I did have to get the oil pan replaced but it was only $300 plus the updated pan with integrated gasket. You guys need to test drive a 2.7. I wish I would have bought a new one back in 2019 before the prices went crazy!

I agree rocket is right. 2018 2.7 With the additional 93 octane tune to 375 hp. The aluminum panels on this truck and the light 2.7 engine shave serious weight. There is a reason why you never see this 2.7 in your shop with it's compacted graphite iron block. I mobile synthetic every 3500 miles no excuses.

@@barrthom603 the oil pan on the 2.7 tends to leak, and while the 3.5 does have the cam phaser issue the updated design pretty much solves that as long as maintenance is kept up. We don’t see much of either in the shop I work at, so both are good so long as you take care of the known issues. The 3.5 just tends to do better over time.

@@barrthom603Stay away from the 307's because they're nightmares. They can burn up to a qt of oil every 500 miles. The 3.5 and 2.7 are about the same. They both give problems, but you usually don't have to replace the motors. The 2.7 has less VVT issues but coolant tends to get into the turbos. The 10 speeds have a lot of problems as well.

I've got a 2013 F150 3.5 Ecoboost. Other than a vacuum pump leak, I have had absolutely zero and I mean ZERO problems from this truck. Change the oil every 3,000 miles with penzoil platinum ultra, Change coolant with motorcraft coolant every 60000 miles, change tranny fluid and transfer case with motorcraft LV every 50,000 miles, recently did front and rear differential with amsoil severe duty After 170,000 miles. I tow with this truck regularly, heavy loads at times And sometimes it will set for weeks at a time and i've never had a rattle of any kind at startup, ever. It all comes down to maintenance. Maintain your vehicle and it will last. That's the long and short of it. Yes, there will be a few problem. Child's out there. But that comes with everything. Couldn't be happier with this truck. Other than a blower motor and weak air conditioning. As a matter of fact, I have a buddy that has a truck the same year with 341,000 miles.... His vacuum pump hasn't even leaked to this day. To be honest, I think the 3.5 Gen. One motor was actually a good motor if you took care of it and ford is still using it to this day in fleet and commercial vehicles, GEN 1! The gen1 is a workhorse, Treat it with respect and it will return it return it. Its got 216,000 + miles today......🤔 Stay away?.... Just maintain them!

The only powertrain issue I’ve had (after 69K miles) with the 5.0L was the first problem you listed - the VCT solenoids. Easy warranty fix, though. the gas mileage is around 12 mpg on the 5.0 liter. they suck a n d cant pass a gas station on the highway. i bought a 2018 and live my 3.3 liter non turbo. i haul a 7000 pound skid steer and get 20 mpg on the highway 16 around town. its a rock crusher. empty 23 mpg highway and 19 around towwn with a 6 speed trans o and its 4 wheel drive too.

I'm a senior master Ford tech. Its the highest level certification you can get from Ford. If someone tells you not to buy a late model F150 5.0, its very good advice. The F150 is one of the most complicated vehicles ever made. You have 2 completely separate fuel injection systems, 2 fuel pumps. 4 cams, 4 cam phasers, 3 timing chains, an unreliable 10 speed transmission that takes special fluid, the dipstick is in code, and it has to be hooked up to a computer to monitor the fluid temperature that must be between 210-216 degrees just to set the level, otherwise you'll have drivability issues. Constant door latch issues, Constant camera issues with a calibration process that has to be seen to believe, constant vibration issues, a computer system with over 50 modules on the network that would make NASA jealous, and a telematics system that calls Ford every time your check engine light, or any other type of fault occurs, and you get a phone call from Dearborn MI telling you to take the truck in to the dealership for immediate service. There's a few other issues as well, but aside from that, its not too bad. The loaner you have looks great and drives beautiful. I get it. Its not foolish to want one. But if you saw the hell we put our customers through, you simply wouldn't believe it. If you must have an F150 with a 5.0, here's my advice as a Ford tech. There are 2 major engine editions for the 5.0. A 302 and a 307. The 302 is either a gen 1 or gen 2 motor. It has 1 fuel injection system (port, not direct), and it gets matched to a very reliable 6 speed transmission. Gen 3's and up are 307's. If you want all that crap I listed above, buy a 307. I can definitely recommend the 302. They do have some issues, but its not the nightmare that the 307 is. Or why not keep the Ranger? I'd rather have that over an F150. If its a 2.3, the base engine is a Mazda L series. Ford takes the base motor and puts the Eccoboost system on it, but the short block is a Mazda, and they make very good engines. I'm a certified Mazda tech as well, so I've worked on quite a few of them.

I bought a 2024 Powerboost a week ago. I agree...the power and torque is insane! I hope buying a hybrid won't bite me in the rear-end. I love it so far. I traded in a 2013 5.0L which was pampered with 6K oil changes. At about the same time, a friend bought a 2013 with a Gen 1 Ecoboost. I enjoyed years of trouble-free driving while my friend had numerous major engine issues with his truck. My gut told me then that the Ecoboost was too new and I should let others suffer through the failures. My dad would never buy cars with power windows because he said, "It's just another thing that'll break." I inherited this gene. LOL Thanks for the great video.

Great video and I truly appreciate your insights. I too worked in a Ford dealership for 20 years but as a gearhead salesman. I generally agree with your views but one thing we all need to remember... Many many vehicles leave the dealership new and are not seen again unless they get traded back in. Zero or minor issues at most so they never see a technicians hoist except for oil changes, brakes etc... and oftentimes those services aren't done at a dealership. My last F-150 was 2013 gen 1 ecoboost that I sold last year with 160K+ miles and the only time it needed to go to a dealership service dept for any problem was to have the 6spd lead frame replaced at 135K when it started intermittently downshifting. And it was covered by warranty/recall or whatever Ford called it at the time! I'm now retired for several years and in the market for a new powerboost. In a dreamers world, I'd like the old school 300ci straight 6 turbo charged hybrid making about 350hp and 1000pf torque mated to a 10spd!!!

The used truck prices are pretty scary too. I bought my 2017 XLT 3.5L EB/10R80 SuperCrew Fx4 last May, it's a TX Edition with 20" wheels. I originally wanted the 5.0L Coyote but after doing some reading and research, the 3.5 started looking better for my needs. I started getting cam phaser rattle last November, not too bad yet but I can tell it's starting. First thing I did was add an oil catch can, then driver's side rear seat back release, an oil change and filters at 64% oil life remaining (so I'd know what's in it), new BFG A/T KO2s to replace the worn out street tires it came with. So far I love the engine, the transmission default mode gets annoying in town with frequent shifts and it's less responsive on take offs but Sport Mode takes care of those issues. I only use default mode on the interstate and some parts on highways. Overall, I absolutely love this truck. It's the smoothest riding vehicle I've ever owned with plenty of power for my needs, more than enough cabin space for comfort and secure/dry storage for luggage and groceries (especially with the rear seat bases folded up). The 5.5' bed is a trade off: sucks if I need to haul lumber but okay for hauling brush, trash to the dump, etc. The ONLY time I wish I had something smaller is when I have to park downtown (Nashville). I think they base parking spaces on Smart Cars and Fiats.

Watch your exhaust on cold starts. If its white, you're burning coolant. It leaks and gets into the turbos. If you catch it early its usually not a big deal, but don't let it go. Also, check your trans fluid regularly. You can't let that go either. If you do your own maintenance, changing the oil on the 2.7 is easy. The filter is under the hood. Just be careful you don't burn yourself draining the oil.

I use Amsoil signature series oil with their 25,000 mile filter. I change mine every 12 to 15,000 miles and I’m up to 465,000 miles but that’s just me. The way you are going that thing will never quit.

OMG DUDE. Just came across your vid and being a 2020 2.7 with 17800 F-150 I'm getting the bug for a new F150. I had a 5.0 before and really just love the sound of a 8 compared to my 2.7. Just drove a 24 for testing with 5.0 lariat blacked out and geez I fell in love. That thing is Pure sweet. Thing holding me back at moment is dam high interest rates. I am the original owner of an almost 15 year old F150 that’s been a reliable and relatively trouble free truck. I cannot overstate that proper maintenance is the key! I had the valve covers off it for the first time last year and the 5.4 still looked clean, shiny, and like new inside thanks to proper interval oil changes.

Great video... I have a 2018 with the 3.5 Eco and you described it to perfection... I believed the 3rd time they worked on the cam phasers they fixed the issue, and the 10 speed transmission was replaced at 75K miles... I love that truck, but thank God I had an extended warranty LOL...

5 years an 90,000 later on my 2018 2.7 and I would have bought the same truck. Great on fuel, great for towing my 5th wheel in the summer. I took advice from a ford Tech and cut all the recommended service intervals in half. Zero problems it still runs like new. I'd say the biggest improvement on the Gen-2 2.7Lfrom the gen-1 2.7L is the dual port injection. The gen 1 was only direct port and I was worried about carbon buildup on the valves.

I have had 4 different f150s with the 3.5 eco, and I tell you what it has been a really strong engine with zero issues. Now of course two of them weren't super high miles but they got up there. I currently I have a 2021 eco and that engine is a beast, great mpg seeing about 19 in the city and 23 on highway maybe 24 if Im lucky. Iv been a ford guy most of my life but did own a chevy and a dodge, and I can tell you this, I have never been at a mechanic shop more in my life when owning those two different trucks. Electrical issues, transmission issues, fuel pump, starter, and oil leaks excessively. Now ik not all trucks are perfect but owning my 4 f150s none of them have been in the shop for those issues. Just traded in my 2012 3.5 f150 for my newer 2022 2.7 f150. I'm really glad you said you wouldn't keep anybody from buying this smaller engine if it fits your needs. Only thing I tow is my motorcycle. I thought I would notice having less horsepower than my 2012...but the 2022 2.7L paired with the ten speed... It is a beast imo and I have been really happy with it so far. As a former Ford mechanic I know to keep up on the maintenance especially oil changes. With that I'm excited to see if I can get well over 200k miles like my 2012. Great informative video!!

Hi Thanks for the great information. I've been driving Ford trucks since 1983. My previous truck was a 2015 3.5 Gen 1 with a 6 speed tran. Fortunately, I drove the truck 156K miles without any issues. I now have the 2023 3.5 with Gen 3 with a 10 speed tran. With both trucks I have used 100% synthetic oil & change it every 5000 to 5500 miles. Nothing drives or survives like a Ford truck! The best engine I ever had was the 94 Powerstroke - I believe to be the best engine Ford ever made. Regardless of what engine you have, you must change the oil.... it is the blood of your engine!! I have a 2015 3.5 ecoboost with 157K miles on it, changed the oil every 3.5k-4k miles with high quality full synthetic oil, and I have yet to have any failure or need any repairs. Several family members share my experience with their 3.5 ecoboost Gen1/Gen2. If people simply took the maintenance part more seriously they would find they have very few to no problems.

Great video. I have a gen 1 3.5 EB (2016) since 18k miles. i now have 78k. i ended my 10k mile oil change at 70k and started changing oil at 5k. Love this truck. no issues ever. I especially love the aluminum oil pan instead of the plastic one in 2017 EB. im shocked you ranked it the lowest. i plan to never get rid of mine.

All I know is that my 2005 F150 from the Virginia plant has run like a champ. Only replaced batteries, starter and serpentine belt ! Kept the fluids changed religiously !

Over the summer, I bought a new F150. One of my requirements was the V8 because I have no experience with turbo engines and didn't want the added complexities and cost if the turbos go bad. I'm glad to hear the V8 is pretty solid. I changed the oil at around 3k miles and plan to do so around every 5k from now on. As to the ten speed transmission, it takes some getting used to, especially when it skips 2nd gear. But otherwise, I can't complain.

@gnarlytothemax you can say that again. Try looking for a 5.0 Lariat with the 6.5' bed. Absolutely non existent. I got amazingly lucky when one became available, was a 2020, and located 25 miles away. The others were an 8 hour drive to go pickup. I was watching for 6 months.

Hope you don’t want to tow anything. The 5.0 is a high revving mustang motor and you can’t have a conversation in the cabin while towing. The 3.5 runs around 2500 towing the 5.0 screams at 5500-6000 rpm while towing. Great mustang motor not so good for trucks The 3.5 is a much better truck motor than the 5.0. It tow effortlessly and as you heard him say 8/10 rating. Are you guys from the Stone Age? Turbos have been on diesels forever and you’d probably buy a diesel. Just make sure you do your oil changes and as the mechanic said the 3.5 is just as reliable as the 5.0 BUT it can tow where the 5.0 is terrible at towing ‘it has to work harder and it’s way noisier

Im super convinced that most of the ecoboost problems come from lack of maintenance and lack of understanding of how important frequent QUALITY oil changes are. I do have the leaky turbo coolant fitting that i need to fix but it has been a great truck and i tow with it regularly.

As I remember, Ford had its issues with the 3.5 but they didn't have to replace 100,000 engines like Toyota just did because they were failing at 30k miles. Also, "ain't" isn't a word.
