Just to clarify some things: This Video Includes interpolations, samples as well as Songs Mariah has used elements of. These are All credited, i did not think of them myself. This Video does not include inspirations, eg Best of my Love for Emotions

It depends on the usage, but the way Mariah uses them it's absolutely masterful. She layers two completely different songs on top of each other to make a work of art. It takes someone with exceptional taste and a phenomenal ear to be able to do that well

Back in the the when her albums were released i used to go to Sam goody, and have them order the albums from which I saw her credit samples in the liner notes of each cassette tape. I actually enjoyed every one of them and learned more songs by each of those artists. The Tom Tom Club album was my favorite discovery and I still enjoy it revisiting it. Although on the Emotions album on the credits on ‘can’t let go’ there was nothing listed and she was sued for not giving credit to the song which was not Keith sweat. I can’t remember what it was, but it was definitely not the song she use for her make it last remix years and years later. But nowadays people say she use that sample for both.

You’re wrong. Mariah Carey IS a musician. Walter Afanasieff, her professional music partner and collaborator called her a “Top Line Writer.” This means that she can write lyrics and melodies off the top of her head in the studio. She writes 85-90% of her music, with the exception of her covers and her ad-lIbbed homages. She is classically trained and has perfect pitch. She is responsible for the influence of the R&B and Hip-Hop crossover. She has chosen to make her voice her instrument and primary focus. Just because you don’t play a musical instrument does not mean that you’re not a musician.

Great use of sampling. Girl really loves her 70s and 80s Soul/Funk/R&B and 90s Hip-Hop. The couple of samples that really surprised me were the Bring Me the Horizon song and Rod Stewart song (all this time I never even connected Subtle Invitation to DYTIS because it's quite a hidden interpolation thanks to the completely different melody). Also, I didn't notice Aretha is in It's A Wrap because she's pitched.

Didn't know she'd sampled as if! The originals sound so funky-no wonder her music is so varied and full of energy.. all that funk and soul in there 😎👍🏼

I don’t think a lot of people appreciate the artistry of sampling. It’s not an easy or lazy way of making music it takes musicality. She does come up with melodies and lyrics and then expands them with samples, it’s an art form.

Karla Jean true. Prince was a purist. I don’t think sampling is necessarily bad though.

I love this. I knew Mariah loved the 80s so it's really cool to see how the music of her childhood influenced her later on. This was such a great video.

Oh she is indesputably the musical genious! Having taken all those tiny bits from masterpieces themselves and with such a powerful respect to those artists who had created them! My vocabulary even fails to express my deep admiration and owe of Mariah! I am definitely going to buy the original songs/tracks/pieces of music and enjoy them as much as I do with M. Carey. A huge thank YOU who has perfectly crafted this encyclopedia for us! Hugs from Moscow/Russia 💖💐🙌🙆💪💪

It’s beyond amazing that how Mariah sampled these songs in such perfectly natural way. All her songs with this touch of nostalgic magic always convey the certain emotions from her. It always makes me appreciate her more as a producer. Mariah is an infinite treasure ! Too bad I wasn’t lucky enough to witness her peaks in career or be there when she’s at her all time low but at least I can say it’s not too late to mark her as my lifetime idol and inspiration. 🥰 Excellent video too! Thank you so much for posting this!❤️
