G'day! In this video I modify a FlySky FS-GT3B Transmitter to use a 3s LiPo battery in place of the 8 AA batteries for convenience and hopefully longer run time. There are many videos out there on the subject, but this is my take on the mod and I try to make it as quick as possible. Hope you find it helpful.
The battery I'm using is a Turnigy Nano-Tech 3s 11.1v 2500mah.
Thanks for watching.

Very informative. I did a similar mod on my Tower Hobbies branded Kraft RC plane radio back in the '70s. Put plugs on both the RX & TX so I could charge them while still in the plane or transmitter. Of course we only had NiCads but that was still better that the regular alkaline batteries. Thanks for sharing!😎👍

Thanks mate. Oh yeah, back then it was a huge leap going from alkaline's to NiCd's, your mod would have made a huge difference to run time and you wouldn't need to go to the shop and buy batteries every time you want to fly. RC life is so much easier these days, with things like Electronic speed controllers, brushless motors and LiPo batteries! Thanks for watching! 🙂👍

@@RCHobbyShed lithium batteries are awesome in that regard.. not to mention they can keep their storage charge for a very long time. I've happened across cells I haven't used in a decade or so that are ready to go. I replace all batteries immediately when the originals are nimh or nicad.. those chemistries are far beyond obsolete in my books .

@@RCHobbyShed They're not really Spectrum radios, they have a different protocol and the receivers won't bind to a Spectrum. Horizon should give us the option of buying cars without the radio like the Bnf planes. These fly sky radios are great especially for the price. Went to Metro hobbies and bought spare arms for the 4s outcast , soon as I got home I cartwheeled it and broke the front arm. Couldn't believe it , thanks for the advice on buying these radios mate , they're great.

Its great having spares but good to try some mods as well. Wife has a Senton 6s ,Vas at Metro hobbies said try some proline tyres .They're a little bit bigger rims and tyres , was very impressed with it . Faster and tracks perfect even over rough ground and handling is great. Things very fastbut the 3s Senton is just as fast and i cant break it. Ive flipped end over end at 50 mph ,cartwheeled it into rocks and nothing wrong with it just keeps going. Ordered a new shell , want to try bigger granite wheels and 6s typhon shocks . These rc cars are too much fun, now the wife wants an Arrma Mojave, Saw one at Metro and the things a tank. I better get a box of spares the way i drive ha,ha,

I think the battery for the RC6GS is only 2s. You need a 3s battery. A battery like the one in the video works, and I think Zippy make one similar. 👍

great mod ,done a few of them in my day, but have to say, you would look a lot more professional with some decent tools, like some Klein small awg stranded strippers, maybe like 20 -30 awg right tool for the right job.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with using side cutters or even pliers to strip wires if you know what you're doing. In my trade and an Electrical Fitter/ Armature winder we never used wire strippers, most are basically a gimmick.

Hello mate. Thanks for this. It's a great easy to follow tutorial. I've just got a 3B with an RC I've bought. Does the GT3B have a low battery alarm like the GT3C, and does it work with a Lipo, or do I have to keep an eye on the voltage. Thanks 😊👍👍

G'day mate and thanks! I don't think the GT3B has a low voltage alarm without having the firmware hack done, which mine hasn't had, but it can be done. I run a LiPo with mine and I just keep an eye on it. Hope this helps. 👍

If you’re using a Lipo in one of these is it OK to keep it charged or is that bad for the battery after you use your controller do you need to put the battery back in storage mode?
@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 4 жыл бұрын
That is a really good point! I actually just leave mine near to full, although that's not really the right thing to do with a LiPo. So yes, you really should do a storage charge after use to be safe, especially if it's not going to be used for a while.

How long dose one charge last and was the battery strong enough?
@RCHobbyShed
@RCHobbyShed 3 жыл бұрын
In short, a long time! I haven't actually measured or even noticed how long it runs for but it's nothing like the AA batteries that I was forever changing. I can take a car for a run, leave it for days and go again without worrying about the radio battery. The voltage is actually higher than if using NiMh AA batteries, 9.6v for AA's vs 11.1v for 3s LiPo. Alkaline batteries are 1.5v each, so 12v for 8 of them but because of their low mah rating they don't last long. After I did this mod battery life is way better! I yapped on a bit here, but I hope it helps answer your question. 👍

A slim line Turnagy (3S ) 2400 fits perfect, YET I also saw a guy run a 3200 PAK in. THE only caveat, is use you can't charge directly through the discharge cables. YOU still have to Balance charge the battery, which means taking them out to charge, (and discharge), every time you use them. A haste. THE C version of this Radio, uses a 1 S , 3.7 volt, low capacity system, and is basically garbage. FLSKY had the right idea, but didn't deliver.

On this battery either of the plugs which have two wires can be used for charging. The other plug which has four wires is the balance lead. On my charger I use a Futaba to banana plug lead I made myself, although they can be bought on eBay.... So in short, I use the balance lead always and the Futaba plug. Hope this helps
