are you bringing tons of aa batteries when going for a run? i got tired of it. I always have lipo's. usb power bank's or some 18650's
when im going for a drive. so heres my idea to use it with my transmitter.
same way for lipo,18650,usbcharger etc be creative

While your idea very much does infact work and safely I might add there is 1 problem. In today's (meaning 2019+) USB power banks they have Incorporated into the circuit "smart charging." This prevents over voltage over current application to protect the "phone" it is recharging. On the FS-i6, the power draw / consumption is so low the power bank tricks itself into thinking a: there is no device attached or b: the "phone" is fully charged and therefore goes into sleep mode. This is why I'm sure you've now opted to go with the lipo battery alternative. You probably couldn't figure out an "always on" bypass. When I first encountered this issue, i knew the culprit right away and assumed adding a simple loaf circuit would combat this issue. NOPE. The smart charge circuit actually is looking for a series of pulses received from the "phone" to advertise it's charging status. Knowing this... Now we're cooking with vinegar. Can use the world famous 555 chip to send astable pulses and create a synthetic "always on" status. For me.... Super easy. No time to build. But. I will admit. Ide rather spend the time flying. I too went with 2s lipo but Incorporated voltage divider.

Little late to the game, but if you're going to do something like this, put a knot in the USB cable on the inside of the case so that when you drop the battery or the exterior cable gets caught on something, the knot acts as strain relief and it doesn't rip the guts out of the power wires.

Yeah, keep calm, no stress. I just did this mod and it works. 5200mAh of power now. Because it hangs on my neck I don't mind the weight.

My solution, I'm using 2 Li-ion battery 14500 in place of two AA batterie and for the others places one is occuped by 2 serial diodes 1N4004 or equivalent placed in a cylinder with same sise of à AA batterie and the other one is a short circuit also placed in a cylinde size AA. The final voltage max is 8.4V - 1.6V = 6.8V and when the Li-ion are fully discharged 6V - 1.6 = 4.4V.... Very simple !

I did something very similar to this for the i6x. Except I kept the cable about 3 feet long to run off a powerbank in my pocket, and I just soldered onto the existing pads in the AA battery tray

Dont use them both together! Either the batteries or powerbank. for me i still had some standard batteries. but i often forgot to bring extra or had to use them in my rc car transmitters. but i always have many usb banks with me :) so if i forgot one day. yup i could just use my usb bank.

Hia, for using with 2s i would want to use a step down / ubec. they are small and compact. stay in range of 5-6.5v thats what works for me. a fully charged 2s is about 8.4(max)ish some say it works, others fried it. thats why id say put in a ubec and stay safe :) hope it helps

man, no hace falta que profanes asi el control. Con atarle los cables del usb a los terminales de las pilas y dejando la tapita de atras apenas abierta para que salga el cable, es igual.

Why did you do all that invasibe modification? Just wrap the wires of the USB in the AA batery terminal. then, secure it whit 2 AA batteries (may be discharge ones, they just make pression in the terminals. 10 monts in that way, and counting

hi Toty RZ So true i could have done that. but i wanted a permanent option. for me this was stage 1. beeing able to use either aa or usb(i got to many usb banks). Stage 2 i got another i6x this one has lipo.stage 3 hotswapable battery source, shame if youre on 10k run opps almost empty of juice. Thanks for feedback :)

this one was used with a 1a usb powerbank,non branded. i also tested with a 2s lipo, worked wonders. or 2x 18650- so 5v-8.4v if that helps you out.

cose the powerbank deliver 5v and 4 AA are 6v (1.5v x4). Thant's why. but still work fine

yupp very much so :D but i dont have any LiFe Pack now.... but i had many usb packs, works like a charm. But now both are upgraded with small 2s lipos the third one wil be teared down and fitted into a suitcase with 3s :)

But you dont know when the Batterie is empty because it dilivers always 5v and Shutdown whithout any warnings ⚠ Also many of the cheap Powerbanks didnt have leds and the Tx couldnt measure the voltage of the cell. But they cuts the Power of. Also the inverter /boost Electronic in the Powerbank can give elektromagnetical Interferenz and could Limit the range.
