Rakish Rc I use a Tenergy 6v 2000mah NIMH for my i6x. Just soldered wires onto pads in battery compartment routed them through the battery cover, used butt splice connectors so I can unhook to charge. Stuck it on with velcro. This allows me to still use AA batt if I want as well. I followed what you had done with yours and I burnt the voltage regulator out in a few weeks of use. Had done all your other mods as well. Just got new i6x and I think what I suggested above is great/safer route. Just my 2cents... Your videos have helped me a lot!

Hi, yes anything that's within 6v is a good alternative. I am using a 5v mini buck converter which also allows me to either use AA or a lipo..the output voltage can be adjusted so I've set it to 5.5v when using a lipo. Thanks for sharing your experience 👍

If you plan on using a 2S LiPo battery; ONLY use it with a step-down ( buck ) 5V output voltage regulator module; readily available online. It is inexpensive protection against ruining your transmitter.

Hi, thanks for your useful videos. I have my FS-I6X openTX running on 2S 500mAh JR connector (I get about 2 to 3 hours of use, battery fit in original compartment). I'm using a step down converter adjusted to 7.3v, so that I can fully charge it. Thanks to voltage drop in the converter, I'm able to set an alarm on the TX to detect low battery. Very important: regulator consume power and can fully deeplete Li battery when not in use. I have modified the TX switch (it is a 2 inverter in one) so that it separate the converter from the battery. i have a second FS-I6S and I'm thinking to make a video of the mod with the ref of converter, voltage adjustment and switch mod. About your damaged TX, if you order the same TX, you may be able to track what area is not functioning. And with some electronic knowledge, to be able to change damaged components. You've helped me to select this good TX, I hope you will continue with it. Best regards

That's a very good choice with voltage converter. I should have considered it earlier 😁. Yes if i get the same radio i could compare and try to diagnose the issue. Glad you found this radio perfect for your use. Yes I do consider having the fsi6x again 👍
@davidrenaud87982 жыл бұрын
@@RakishRc hello, I 'm preparing a second radio FS-I6X for Lipo 2S with DC-DC converter . If it preserves TX from high voltage, it is very important to adjust output voltage so that low Bat voltage can be detected to trigger an alarm. My DC-DC converter as a voltage drop off 0.5V, so I set the output at 7.4V which seems to be a reasonable maximum for the TX. In the radio setup, I set the voltage range from 6.8V to 7.4V and an alarm at 6.9V. If there is a way to share pictures with you, I'll show you how to modify main switch so that it cut also stand by consumption of the converter when TX is OFF. By the way, you may modify the title of the video, stating "don't use 2S lipo WITHOUT DC-DC converter (properly adjusted)" Wish you a good night.

@@davidrenaud8798 I am very interested in your mod. Could you please share a picture/schematic? I am using 5V DC-DC converter but don't know how to have low Bat voltage. Because of that I have lost two Lipos so far. Thanks.
@davidrenaud8798 Жыл бұрын
@@nmrlab3807hello, DC-DC converter with fix voltage 5v is not a good idea. I use a converter with variable voltage output set at 7.4v.. Thanks to voltage drop (about 0.5V),, the output start to drop when output voltage decrease below 8.1V. In the TX setup, I set the voltage range between 6.6v to 7.4V, with an alert at 6.7V. Mot important is to keep in mind the stand by consumption of converter which can kill a pack in a night. So, I have modified the wiring of the TX switch so that it cut also battery output. I need to document that and I'll share it on RC group. Best regards

I was wondering about this as I saw you using 2s while the regulators are specced for input 6V. They've probably been running quite hot but it's surprising how long they lasted. I just started modding my I6X and the plan is to add step down buck regulator so I can use 2-4s batteries. I definitely need lipos as AA batteries really did not like the ERLS transmitter.
@RakishRc2 жыл бұрын
So yes the whole point of using lipo for this raido is to power up the elrs transmitter. Yes you can use a buck converter. I think the grease i applied on power switch shorted something and the lipo was als fully charged so together it messed up the raido. You can use aa for raido and lipo for elrs transmitter just need to have signal and ground wired between radio and elrs transmitter

So based on several other reviews I saw I was pretty confident a 2s LIFEpo setup would be safe at about 6.7 volts. Plugged it in and powered on fine the first time, second time powering on it starts surging on and off every few seconds, now it does it with any input even the AA. Looks like I fried mine as well, just wanted to throw this out there as the Life Batt seemed to be well within a safe range but it seems it may not be.
@RakishRc Жыл бұрын
6.7v is actually very close to the rated 6v limit and i am surprised it's acting weird. You may want to check the power cables of the connector on the motherboard and battery bay. I am currently using a buck converter with a 2s and it also powers up with AA if i have to

@@RakishRc I ve gone over all the power connections, they look fine. Just every time it powers on it will go to full voltage then exactly every 5 seconds it shuts off for a split second and reboots. @@RakishRc Thanks for your eariler advice, I figured out it wasnt a voltage issue after all. I had just installed the Open TX firmware not long before. I forgot I had the external PPM port enabled and for some reason that was causing it to power cycle without anything plugged into the trainer port. New problem I ran across though, no matter what I do I cannot get the Open TX to recognize my Happymodel ELRS module. The only thing it sees on external mode is PPM. Thought I might need to save the HM specific LUA script but it says there isnt enough space to do that in the FSI6X memory. Not really sure what else to do.
