Mr Clarke - your thread control is 'sheer' magic. A delicate tie. Seriously... I was on the edge of my seat watching this. Top class. Thank you.

When you finished the second peacock wrap I thought that there was no way you could get the rest of the material on the hook, but you did. A genius I say.

Mr. Clarke, this is my favorite traditional wet fly. It is also my brother-in-law's favorite fly pattern. I have been practicing your method so I can gift him a dozen for his birthday. So far I have three that I think are acceptable. Thank you for your unwitting assistance in this endeavor.

This was a beautiful tie, Barry. You just brought back a fond round table memory with this one. A tyer I knew made his living as a stone mason. If he tried to prep the floss in your manner, he cursed a blue streak. His hands were like sand paper and the floss frayed terribly.

Wow Mr.Clark I missed this video. That Royal is absolutely one of these best I have seen (and trust me I have seen a huge number of variations of the Original "Royal Coachman Wet Fly" ) about every production Fly Maker I know for various Fly Shops from Rapid City to Northern Montana has their own little bits that make their flys unique....but this one you did here is about as perfect and as close to the original as I have seen period. Nice Job ! Man we REALLY NEED TO figure out a way for us to exchange some flys....I have about 12-15 that I have collected from shops all around the Western Slopes here from places like the west slope of the Big Horns and the West side of the Black Hills all the way across Wyoming and Montana of various patterns that I think you would love to have and to maybe even tie some...that the Wife and I collected just for you during our fishing trips this past spring and early summer. So good to see your tying and posting again. We hope and pray you and yours are enjoying good health and staying safe from the Virus. Remember Fall is coming very quickly and Hunting and Fishing will pick back up. We have Elk tags to fill and a freezer that needs some Trout in it for winter so keep your line dry and your loop short ....Randy & Tracie.

That is beautifully tied Mr. Clarke, is that mallard white wing primary or secondary a choice, or use primary not secondary?

Thank you, they are primary mallard wing quills.

Nice detail using the lighter to trim the wing. Is there a specific reason that you don't tie the peacock herl in by the tips?
@Thefeatherbender3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ejnar, thanks. I do but only if a pattern specifically requires that they are tied in by the tips. The advantage with tying in by the butt end is that the herl quill is so much stronger and when wrapping, you don't go against the natural growth direction of the herls barbules.
@hni7458 Жыл бұрын
Thought for long that's gonna be one tiny space for a head, but then the lighter came in; no one really expected that one. Extraordinarily skillful - my hat's off to you Sir, that's a very beautiful fly - never seen a better RC wet. As we all know, catching fish isn't the primary target, which is to tie the most beautiful of flies.

Just curious, Barry do you reside in Great Britain ? How are your rivers doing? I live in Colorado and most rivers are closed to recreational use . Sadly very very low levels.
