I'm not one to gush, but I have to say that this is by far the best flying/accident analysis channel I've come across on KZbin. The no-nonsense, unbiased analysis is a refreshing alternative to the know-it-all hysterics, seizure-inducing effects and slander-of-the-day content of some KZbin pilots. Thank you, Capt. Perdue.

another very big thank you - inspired me to spend a whole day in the sim practicing takeoffs and landings in the husky - my landings are never consistent and often a bit scary so i need the practice - the sim husky only has 2 levels of flaps but yours seems to have 3 but the sounds and flight characteristics seem to be very close to the real thing - thanks for the backward pointing camera it helps visualize how the plane flies to compare with the sim - i need to learn more about elevator "authority" i have heard that mentioned several times lately and dont fully understand what it means - another thing i need to figure out is the sim husky doesnt take off as quick as the real one so i must be doing something wrong - thanks again

When you get comfortable you’re gonna want steeper and slower. Nice job with a new to you airframe. Don’t bend anything. Go up high and get used to the tiny stall recovery with a bit of power on and the horn blaring, feels really uncomfortable at first. Gap seals will fix the tail power issue you mentioned and get you a full wing stall instead of stalling the tail. Keep up the great work Scott!!!

It's just a big ultralight. Love the standard gauges (no glass panel). It desperately needs gap seals for the elevator & rudder (makes all the difference). Hate the old ultralight style bungee cord trim system. Your head sticks up inside the two wings. Forces the pilot to bend ones neck down to see under the wings.

"I don't know, but I like it..." Technical nit-picking is it's own kind of "fun" (and is important for getting better) but this definitely looks like some good seat-of-the-pants fun as-is! Based on the markings on your home runway and measuring on google earth, it looks like you were off the ground in less than 300' on that first takeoff.

Probably a dumb question but when you plan to land on a makeshift field how do you know where the wind is from, or doesn't it matter?
@monsenrm3 жыл бұрын
You don't. You have to discern it from weather reports from nearby airports or sometimes you can see it by noticing drift angle as you fly over it. Most airports have wind socks so a flyover can help see that too. Ponds and water can be helpful. You can see the pattern of the waves. The last one I have heard is cows. Supposedly cows put their butts in the wind to reduce flys. I can't say I have ever used that one...

G,day Scott from Sydney Australia. * Your new Husky (light plane) is sounding great. * The flaps lever, obviously is much quicker to change the cord length, than electronic motors. * Could you please show the side window/door lock of the plane and are you able to fly with it: open position? 🌏🇦🇺

Well you have already flown 'Your Dog" for several days ferrying it from Idaho? But I guess getting the feel for STOL takeoffs and landings is a different skill set. With your extensive military and ATP career I don't think you will take long for you to get real familiar with it. I have heard it does take a little bit of getting use to a tail dragger. I think you will be in great shape by June 2022. Will you be taking any short back country excursions around Dallas Metro area in the coming weeks?

Hello, I just found you, subbed and rang the bell. I have a question, last night I was looking at the Husky and found somewhere, I don't remember where but they said a tailwheel first landing was key to shortest landing. This sounds strange to me but honesty I have really old old (90s) and very limited tailwheel experience. Will you tell me your thoughts? Bunk or true? Thank you and be safe.

So, have you had to replace those Alaska Bush Wheel tires yet? As a 14 year Husky driver from So. Cal., with few grass strips available, I wore out two sets of ABW 29s in 4 year$. I replaced them with 29 AirHawks 10 years ago, and they're still going strong. I'm late in welcoming you to the Husky "club" and I'm sure you've had time to appreciate the your Jonesing for the Husky was well deserved. Safe flying.

scott i find that nothing hones your skills like wheel landings on a 5000' asphalt runway. throw in a bit of xwind and better yet! i tell guys doing tailwheel endorsements with me they can teach themselves 3 point landings if they can take it down the long runway under control up on the mains. i spend almost all the time on wheel landings and do 2 or 3 three pointers at the end just to show them what it looks like. i also find that grass landings are not useful for learning aircraft control. grass landings are as easy a landing a nosewheel plane. i was checking a guy out who came to rent the champ where i was instructing and he said he'd never landed on pavement. i couldn't believe someone gave him the endorsement like that. we spent close to an hour getting him able to control the plane on the pavement.
