Watching a lot of KZbinrs try FS without the first clue how to fly a plane, and always picking jetliners, was both dreadful and funny. (...because they were amused by their incompetence. If they are having fun, no need to argue.) I've touched flight sims on occasions over decades. The big jets bloody frighten me. A few years ago, in X-Plane 10, I managed to get a Cessna 172 up from cold *and* land the thing properly and words can't describe how satisfying it was. So yeah, if you are a budding sim pilot, start small!

In our local community, real airline pilots that flies 737NG, A330, even the 747-400 will always pick C172 whenever asked to fly in desktop Flight Sim. One guy who learned to fly in the US always asked "why is there no Piper Navajo?" He flies A300 cargo in real life. These real pilots are always eager to show us virtual pilots that "I learned to fly with this thing."
@tellyjoossens41864 жыл бұрын
As a real pilot I started flying and training on a C152 + a Piper Supercup 90hpfrom 1952 and now years later just fly different versions C172 (N, SP and SP with G1000). I also prefer to fly those in flight simulator. It seems these are much harder to fly than an A320. All be it everybody has good memories of the type of aircraft they used to train on.

Great video joe. I wanted to add that 5:11 when we are checking the instruments on the Cessna here in US the regulations require us to do it like this: airspeed indicator reading zero, attitude indicator showing no more than 5º of pitch and/ or bank, altimeter set and within 75ft of the airport elevation, turn coordinator displays turns and ball deflecting opposite (to be checked while turning of taxiways), heading indicator align with the magnetic compass and VSI reads zero. We also should turn off the alternator and check for a discharge reading of the battery in the ammeter.

I have been helping a number of online Game friends getting started by being a virtual instructor using live streaming of their screen and talking to them through discord voice. I would suggest a description of the basic instruments, how they work, how to “align” and verify them in flight and how to scan and compile the complete picture of the flight from them.

Great video Captain Joe! I own and fly a little Cessna 150 so it was really fun to see you go though the familiar checklists and show off your professionalism in a little GA aircraft. I noticed that in your engine startup checklist you only checked that the engine temperature was rising. Not sure if flight simulator is missing the oil pressure indicator or whether you omitted it. In reality, the first thing you want to check after engine startup is oil pressure, not temperature. If the oil pressure does not rise immediately after startup, it could mean you have an oil pump failure or no oil in the engine and could be running your engine without lubrication. In that case you want to know as soon as possible and shut off your engine immediately to limit the damage done to all the moving components by running dry. Keep the great videos coming!

Captain Joe it would be nice and fun to see how a real pilot would do that, well the problem is crash physics are dumb in this game, but why not?

This is amazing. For someone who hasn't got the game and would really like to learn and understand more about aviation you have made this clear but detailed, and it was really easy to follow along. Any more of these sort of videos would be great! Keep up the amazing work

I am from and live in Saint Barth and I’m amazed by how realistic this looks ! Only thing missing is the overwhelming feeling of landing so close to the road beneath haha. Very cool video !

Captain Joe, I watched Stefan Drury using the new simulator ,but he didn't have the complete controls like you have, they really add another dimension to the program. Cheers, Rik
