also WATCH OUT FOR CABLES! Thanks to Jean Daval and others for pointing out the infamous La Tournette refuge wire. I stayed above the pylon height but it was damn near invisible. www.francebleu.fr/infos/societe/parapente-17-000-signatures-pour-faire-enlever-le-cable-de-la-tournette-1525276740

Trying to find the cable location on maps as think I must of flown near it..;)

I love flying that route. But at 9:00 minutes into the video, that's a dangerous spot to be flying. There's a nearly invisible cable heading to that refuge. It has caused accidents. I'm told some have been fatal.

I like your focus on safety. I've flown for more than 50 years and I believe I've made it this far by living by the creed, "You can always fly another day, if you live to see it!"

Your 'A shapes on slopes' hint is very similar to the 'Triangle theory' by Ferdinand Vogel. And I can confirm - it works like a charm!

A bit surreal to see this, in past 2 months I've climbed via ferrata in Col de la Colombiere (next to your starting point), I've flown for a week from Col de la Forclaz, on a bad day during that I've hiked to the top of La Tournette (more climbing variant). Pointe percee at the end is in planning for climbing trip. These are truly beautiful parts of the Alps, thank you for very valuable info!

Is the cable below La tournette still there ? You were very close at 9:10 I guess.
@avandras Жыл бұрын
Well, the cable was there 3 or 4 years ago, but as it's running from the Refuge de la Tournette down to the Refuge du Pré Vérel, he's above and away from the cable. Being in a position close to the cable is a bad idea anyway, there is a strong rotor at that level. I saw an accident there once, the person survived with serious injuries and a proper scare (was hanging from some cliff for a while). So while Greg was safe there, your point is totally valid.
@kocot. Жыл бұрын
@@avandras above, but not far above IMO, and if you catrch nothing there, you'd be coming back straight at it
@avandras Жыл бұрын
@@kocot. yeah, you're right. I was thinking a bit more about it, and what I'd do (and did a couple of times) is do the climbing on the mountainside above Chalet de l'Aulp, from where you can always escape just fine. One can even top-land at the chalet of necessary.
@FlyWithGreg Жыл бұрын
yes good strategy@@avandras, I worked it there for a while but the cloud was collapsing so the whole slope stopped working, most pilots bombed out. The second cable is really hard to spot, I agree.
@kocot. Жыл бұрын
@@avandras yeap, that's what pretty much everyone is doing, hence I was surprised seeing @FlyWithGreg going there low, and also maybe thats was a point missing in this video -> check known obstacles :D The cables around annecy are marked on maps, both paragligin ones and osm

Hi Greg!! You videos are amazing!! In your video, I noticed that you used a Strike 2 harness before the Weightless. I also used a Strike 2, but I couldn't get used to the Velcros that kept coming loose during takeoffs. Now, I use a Weightless, and I'm enjoying it a lot. Did you have the same issue with the Strike 2?
