In 83 I was 7, dad used to have FM104 on all the time, we were in NSW and just managed to pick up 104. For years I heard this guy’s voice, certainly part of my childhood memories:)

Another outback listener, gotta love this country, the reach and dedication of the FM104 listener is quite extraordinary, thanks Jestronix

This is awesome. idk which part I like the best; the surface noise on some of the tracks, those buttery smooth segues or the announcer's proper 1980s FM radio voice.

Oh to be a kid in the 80's. Born too late but can still appreciate the music.

Good on you MG, yes the 80's were awesome to have encountered, the music of that era will be around for a long time yet some of which is yet to be discovered, we played so much of it, sizzling.

Growing up in Bombala NSW there was no FM back then, so imagine my shock in picking up 4MMM in stereo via skip in Jan 1984 (roughly 1000km away). I also heard that exact same DJ in this aircheck on air in 1985 via FM skip.

What a great voice & great mix of music on display here. I grew up listening to EONFM in Melbourne, John Peters & Mark Irvine (both Queenslanders, I believe) were among my favourites

Barry Drinkwater is one of the most amazing announcers and he had the gift of the gab right on that aircheck, brilliant, thanks AJ Ramone

The original FM104 was in an altogether different universe from the crass, bogan wastelands of the contemporary MMM network. Unfortunately, I was born too late to enjoy quality FM radio. Thanks for uploading.

You're welcome DX, yes FM104 was an incredible radio station both to work at and listen too, Barry, Phil, Terry and David were my idols, hell, then I was on air there cheers to Riner, (hear him say The Phil Moroney Disco at the Jindalee Hotel) in this aircheck

You mean that FM radio used to have DJs with deep voices? So different to today's announcers who are still waiting for their voices to break!
@theradioantenna6 жыл бұрын
Instant recognition, you only had to hear the voice back announce and you knew it could only be FM104, Thanks Nick

This reminds me so much of New FM (Newcastle) probably about the same time too. DJs with great voices. New FM had them as well, Graham Rodgers for one. I was shocked when he turned up on NXFM for awhile. haha

What was that 4MMM FM DJ's name with the deep voice, I just can't remember it? It's not Phil Moroneys, doesn't ring any bells. Listening to this stuff sure brings back beaut memories from those days.

Yes Dave, I think you mean Barry Drinkwater, Drive announcer, glad there are still other folk who enjoy hearing these gems, have a Great New Year and stay safe, Cheers Oysters

@@theradioantenna That's him Oyster, Barry Drinkwater (fair dinkum, thanks for remembering that mate). Mr Drinkwater was a top DJ on 4MMM FM back in those great old days of FM radio in Brisbane. He had that unique voice that was perfect for FM radio. I'm guessing that Barry has possibly moved onto something different now day or has possibly retired (depending on his age) Those were great times listening to the radio back then, it's just not the same now days. Cheers Dave
