For this first-time FM player, you, Phil, are a LEGEND! I've watched barely three of your videos and already seen a huge improvement in my Unemployed-->Barnsley save

Hey Phil, I've now watched a few of your videos. Absolutely loving the more measured and calm approach to things. It's quite the opposite of how I play FM. Some might say I can resemble a raving mad man with my tactics and demeanor, 😅 Not to say I have not ever done well in my saves, I most certainly have. Yet it can be exhausting to play like that. Your videos have taught me that it's quite alright to take a deep breath and actually look at the situation/facts in front of you. Instead of getting swept in the moment. Definetly looking forward to more content.

Thank you so much for your feedback. As you can probably tell my videos are aimed at less experienced players and so it is always good to hear some positive feedback from someone a little more experienced. Thank you so much for watching and supporting the channel

First time watching your channel. Used this for my Celta de Vigo save. My team made so many dumb passes on transition it was driving me crazy. This (and signing a DM who could do a proper pass) helped me clinch a Conference League spot.

Spot on the hold Shape and that has been confirmed by daljit who is a SI forum moderator too. However if you unchecked those buttons, you will be relying on your team tactical nous to determine whether to counter (counter press) or hold shape (regroup)
@fm-oldmanphil8 ай бұрын
Absolutely you are correct.....that's why when building a team the most important attributes for me are the mentals....when I am promoted I focus on having the game intelligence rather than other attributes. Decision making is very important. Having these unchecked will then gives you more options when things are not going right in game. It's balancing how much risk you need to take to win.

All dependant on the players you have and the opposition players. whether you press/counter press or not.
@fm-oldmanphil5 ай бұрын
indeed you are correct and in the creating tactic videos and the defending videos I have done that is is exactly what I have said...if you cant do it, don't do it....if you can do it, do it

Interesting. Not a button I think I’ve ever used before! I must admit, I am one of those who clicks counter attack almost every time because I enjoy transitional play, but your idea of holding shape when the opposition have momentum is definitely one that I will try. I would say, though, that there didn’t appear to be significant change in your Arsenal example; 1 more point, 4 fewer goals scored and 3 fewer goals conceded seems negligible. The fact you went from 3rd to 1st in goal rankings probably says more about the other teams, rather than Arsenal. Perhaps more testing required? Either way, interesting video, Phil!
@fm-oldmanphil8 ай бұрын
I think I agree...testing with Arsenal inconclusive....but did show an improvement however small. I have been monitering this through my other saves too....seems to be working...maybe it's something to do with this years game. I have noticed over the last few years that the coding has changed giving players a new challenge each year. maybe this is this years...still just early thoughts which seem to work well

Can you do a tutorial on club finances? I think that item is big, especially when playing against smaller clubs in lower leagues.
@fm-oldmanphil8 ай бұрын
I'm not sure that's an area of expertise that I have. finances always baffle me and I survive that by winning on the pitch...tactics is really what I do...the financial bit I'm not really that involved in....when faced with no money....I sell if possible and get in loans and freebies

Oky so players running forward is explained by counter and is corrected by hold shape . But what about that pass that was made incorrectly...does that also relates to counter?
@fm-oldmanphil8 ай бұрын
The pass is the reason the ball is turned over. Ultimately most goals are scored because of player error. Most of the team in this case had gone forward and once the mistake was made we did not have enough players left at the back. We could not defend the oncoming attackers. Hold shape asks the players to go forward in a much more deliberate and patient way. To wait until they feel it is safe before going forward. Because it is asking the team to player safer, they will create less chances, but should have enough men back if they make a mistake and the opposition counter. However, it can still go wrong if too many players wander forward. That highlight showed the mistake being made and then as too many players had gone forward all at once...we didn't have enough back to cover the counter attack.

Curious here, if you change also roles when going on hold shape. I try to change my ball winning midfielder role to a anchor man or defensive midfielder what is your take on it?
@fm-oldmanphil8 ай бұрын
not really something that I would do....but it probably would help. Some roles are more naturally defensive and I'm sure that some changes would help. Definitely something I should research more. I would just be careful that you keep an attacking presence and not be completely defensive... Really good question. Thank you
