FM Sitharaman addresses controversy over Gadkari's letter for removal of GST on health insurance

On August 8, 2024, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the Rajya Sabha and mentioned that a letter from Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari requesting the removal of the 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on health and life insurance premiums was released without permission. She also noted that the tax on medical insurance existed before the GST. Watch!

You see what she told on internship scheme to one crore youths in top 500 companies with an internship allowance of ₹5,000 & on 27th July in India Today Budget conclave she diluted that Internship scheme saying," the scheme is not binding for corporate houses." FM is a lier who can dare to misguide even at the highest place of democracy. Don't believe her.

This lady is an accomplished liar. She says that tax was levied on insurance premium by State Governments even prior to the introduction of GST (it was called Service Tax). But she cleverly forgets to say that the rates of the tax were much lower during those years. If my data sourced from the internet is correct it was less than 5%. She has almost quadrupled the rate to 18% GST.
