A good quality FM radio transmitter will have specific components that make up a complete FM transmitter. In this video, we look inside a Broadcast Warehouse BW TX5 transmitter, which is a 5 Watt stereo exciter that has built-in limiting and power output control. This transmitter also has many features such as short circuit protection.
To get a better understanding of how radio transmitters work we look at each part of the transmitter from the power supply to the RF exciter and RF amplifier.
These separate parts come together to form a complete FM transmitting system.
We also look at the connectors on the back that allow the audio signal to go in and the RF signal to go out.
These kinds of modular transmitters can be adapted to provide almost any power output from a 1 Watt FM signal to many hundreds and even thousands of Watts. Importantly though is the design and build quality which results in a nice clean pleasant sounding radio signal with controlled and clear audio modulation.
