I did the maiden fight on a friends Dago Red. I set dual rates at 80% and 10% expo. Flew very nicely.
@goldendredger2 жыл бұрын
You need to get in the habit of putting 30% expo on all 3 surfaces of every plane no matter what. It's a solid base line at 30%. Then adjust up and down from that point. But this gives you a good safe start and will help avoid many crashes.

I agree... it was funny and entertaining, not embarrassing. Thank you for showing experiences like this! Mess up or not, still makes good TV. Back in the day, we had separate radios and receivers. It got expensive, but when it came down to it, every plane I flew had its own radio and receiver, up to 10 channels, 6 channels for control surfaces, landing gear and throttle and 4 extra for whatever we needed them for. I miss flying my big wooden gas powered planes. As I get older, I appreciate channels like this because it reminds me of the "good ole days". Thanks for being here.

Nate, I'm so sorry your maiden on this plane took the turn it did. I can only imagine finally getting a plane that's at the top of your list, the anticipation of getting it in the air and then being disappointed. I agree though expo should cure the problems. You and Abby are in my prayers.

Any landing you can walk away from, is a good landing LOL. 😊
@johnberrios42552 жыл бұрын
We spoke about this Nate. Treat it like the P51D you were having issues with and use my rates and expo we talked about now those were high rates but you can understand how to fly this plane. I've had reno racers and you need to keep that speed up (High Wingloading) very little flaps on takeoffs and very little flaps if any on landings you need a little speed on landings and DO NOT try a 3 point landing. Keep it on the front gear and let the tail settle on its own. I used high rates specifically for landing on a 3 position switch with a mix added in for tail and flaps 100% with about 30% expo. For me that was perfect but that just literally running batteries through it and specifically doing touch and go's (full stop) then takeoff ALOT. On reusing receivers I can only speak for specktrum but on newer ones (year or less) you can do a factory wipe and like one of subscribers said you can unlock it and wipe it and start with a clean slate. I do it all the time on planes that I sell and reuse my receiver. That receiver came factory set for the Timber so way different set up. On the bright side a magnificent display of flying because I was nervous myself and saying a quiet prayer that you would be able to land it. You walked away with it pretty much intact...BRAVO SIR👏

EVERYBODY has flights like that at least once. My dad was in this hobby since it was a control line hobby and even he had flights like that sometimes and he was a master builder and flyer so don't beat yourself up. At least it's in one piece, that's better than I would have done. I have a video on here of a maiden that looked a lot like this one and it was because I didn't have it balanced right. It was tail heavy and it porpoised something fierce but I ended up getting it down in one piece as well so that's why I asked if yours had been balanced.

Tail heavy…. Torque on take off not enough airspeed before lift. Tanking off the ground, let it build up speed. Four blade props have two more blades. Well that’s more torque. More torque roll and no air speed. A wing has to be flying and “up to speed” before being yanked off. Move your battery forward and it will fly a WHOLE lot better.

@mikeonb4c2 жыл бұрын
@@westhobbiesrc8051 I've just decided to take a break from fullsize aviation (gliding) and have an Extra 300. I used to design, build and fly model aircraft when expo wasnt an option on the tx so I did reflect on whether or not to try it. I think it makes for much more pleasant on a 3D plane with huge control surfaces but that has to be landed with finesse in order not to bend it's rather flimsy undercarriage. At my grand old age it's also nice to be able to fly around without having to be too careful on the controls. If I want mad I just move the sticks a bit more ha ha. Having said all that, my first thought on that Reno Mustang was to try moving the c of g forward a bit and see if things improve. It's aileron control surfaces are a LOT less than those on the Extra 🥴👍

@gmorphan2 жыл бұрын
The prop strike happens, until you figure the plane out. Doing your plane setup with low, mid & high rates on a 3 position switch with varying expo is handy to make in-flight adjustments to get it back on the ground safe & sound. Using a Spektrum Rx from another BNF plane is risky, you absolutely have to orient the Rx the same way in the new plane. Spektrum makes an interface cable ($25) that allows you to unlock the settings. You'll need to reset SAFE & AS3X axis & gains, but it's pretty easy.

@austinlangley45392 жыл бұрын
@@TheRcSaylors well it does matter to me because if you were given it to help sell it your opinion on it is it’s going to be the best plane you have ever flown. If you bought this it may not be a bias opinion. And in terms of doing the plane justice the flying was pretty mediocre especially how you slammed the throttle and put the nose into the ground when you have a long runway so you can gradually build up speed. So yes it kinda does matter.
@TheRcSaylors2 жыл бұрын
You’d be very surprised Austin, about a lot of people on KZbin. Very surprised. We do disclose what you are wanting to know, and make it pretty clear. We are probably only around 10% of people who actually do this. There are so many dirty “hidden” sponsorships that Abby and I would love to expose, but it really doesn’t solve anything. If you have a problem with us, there is likely nothing I can say to change your opinion, and that’s fine. I hope you enjoy your time here if you chose to have fun with us!
@TheRcSaylors2 жыл бұрын
To be clear: these sponsorships I speak of are offers that we’ve turned down, but a week later see all of the sell outs featuring them, which means we know they signed the contract. Abby and I have NEVER signed anything, regarding content or anything of that nature for our channel. The minute someone restricts our opinions or tries to us when we shut it down.
@austinlangley45392 жыл бұрын
@@TheRcSaylors ok but it seems like you restrict yourself with feedback on planes in fear of losing that sponsorship or it’s that you really think that every plane is the best plane ever I have never heard you point out flaws in a planes performance and honestly I’m not sure you have there ability to find them based off how you fly aka slamming a prop into the ground on a tail dragger or pulling off Ryanair landings and banging the shit out of it may be because you don’t care about learning to advance your skills as a pilot because you get a new plane for free every month so you can fly like that
