Shot them both, own the 509 midsized. They cleaned the trigger up a bit in the midsize. Like the bore axis better, the grip is grippier (is that a word) and the 509 feels like a better quality gun in hand. FN wouldn't sell the pentagon the guns for 250 bucks each and they probably didn't lobby the right senators hard enough. The gun however is the better gun.

Why do people care about an audible trigger reset? There's no way you can hear that in the field or on the range
@jeffslagle77476 жыл бұрын
tidy pog Beg to differ, in even some of the videos you can hear the reset, if you can feel it you more than likely hear it. Now as to how much of a difference it makes, you got me there. I'm not shooting IDPA or anything. I believe it's all about how well you handle the firearm and recover from felt recoil. When TSHTF none of that is going to matter you shoot until the threat stops period. All he should worry about hearing is "I am armed and will shoot!" If he hears a click it's more than likely not the gun.

Well you won’t be worried about it in a real world fire fight, I can tell you that for sure! When you’re in survival mode it’s irrelevant.

Do you know how much Glock sells their guns to major agencies for? Hint: way cheaper than $217.00... Price isn't why the Sig won, educate yourself. The only reason we know the price that Sig submitted, is that it won and is available to the public. The cost the other manufacturers submitted have not been released... Do some research on Glock however and you will see how cheap agencies are purchasing them for...
@Stack1517 жыл бұрын
You are completely correct, Sig won because it passed all the tests better and also the "completely" package requirements were better than Glock & M&P. @@josh48315 - the p320 is a little bit higher bore axis & the original style grips don't let you get as high up on the gun as the X series of the p320, but the original grips have a good palm swell without being blocky on the upper part of the backstrap. I've got the 320. No disagreements here on anything you said. I've run a couple thousand rounds through it so far and have nothing but great things to say about it. I have the full-size and was able to get a Large frame because I've got really big hands. I moved the chassis over and have to say it was a great $44 investment. The mag release being changable for me as a lefty was great because when it was shifted over made the opposing side flush, which I really like. I really like the 509, but it kills me as a safety professional that you have to pull the trigger to release the upper for takedown. It's like the M14 safety design where you have to basically have your finger on the trigger to engage the safety.

Good question. The thousands were with the old configuration. I have a few of videos up on my channel documenting my upgrade process if you're interested. It ended up fine, but wasn't without a hiccup here and there. I've got a video of finally getting to put some rounds through the new configuration with the new trigger & disconnector. I've got about a thousand rounds through it now and it's working great so far, but like I said, the getting there wasn't without a hiccup there and there.
@JacksonWalter7354 жыл бұрын
Both excellent guns. Can't really go wrong with either. For me a FN 509 with an APEX trigger job is one of the best handguns you can buy. If we're talking about stock guns, it just really depends on the person. I love the trigger and reset on the P320. The aftermarket support and all the cool things you can put your P320 in (especially carbine conversion kits) are second only to Glocks. The ergonomics, grip texture, and ambidextrous features for a lefty like me makes the FN 509 my preferred choice. I don't care about grip frames and trigger modules, but if you do the P320 would be a better choice. The trigger module for the FN 509 barely has any grip frame support if any.

Well done review. You made short work of that take-down procedure with both guns. I went to a gun range yesterday having pretty much decided on the FN 509 but after looking at some different options and having to compromise a bit, I walked out with the Sig p365 macro. The biggest reason was the p365 is smaller and I think will be easier to make disappear for concealed carry. Of course, I feel a little bad I don't own the 509, but every choice involves trade-offs.

as always, great review! i can't wait for your review of the p320 after sig does it's fix. as for the part in this review where you mention buying a different size frame than the slide length, something to consider as a positive would be having a longer frame than the slide. if the gun will function properly in this scenario, should one be in a situation where an assailant is pressed up against the p320, the longer frame can come in handy by allowing you to still use the gun as it might keep the gun from going out of battery.

I had to sigsauer P3 20 and one thing that really stood out to me is very useful feature grant you the modularity in my area for the first couple years the 320 was out oh they really weren’t any materials for you to upgrade or change out that has definitely changed grip modules are readily available magazines readily available calibered changes are also readily available they’re quite expensive I don’t know that I would recommend a caliber change to anyone unless you’re in a country or area where your limited in your firearm purchases for example in Germany you may only be able to have one gun license to you but with the caliber exchange kit you can have a different caliber very useful indeed where I find the modularity to be much more useful in the USA is that you can get different quick modules so if you want to get a different color or a different size you’re able to do that quite regularly and they’re only about 50 bucks the other thing that really sells me on a Sigg P3 20 is that the entire mechanism within the gun frame is removable and very very I did I say very? Easy to clean which is something I can’t say about any other gun I’m not sure about the bread on how that system works but I can tell you the sig. is very simple to clean this very simple to remove for the frame and there are a bunch of other internal pieces and springs and so forth that you need to worry about in bedded in the frame somewhere but you’re not able to remove easily from maintenanceAnd of course if something were to happen to your grip module and you cracked it or break a trigger guard or something like that you always buy a new one I have a new one on standby and swap them out so there is something in deed to be said for the modularity of this Gun I were cleaning and maintenance are concerned

Main difference I would say is grip texture. Your FNS has more aggressive texture. The other smaller differences are different mag releases and sights. If you like changing sights the 509 may interest you since more common sights will fit it now. The 509 shoots really soft as well. That stood out to me right away. It has a dual captured recoil spring compared to the FNS with a single.

A few weeks ago I was shooting 10 shot groups at 10 yards and had 9 rounds basically through the same hole one time. Then I threw my last shot lol. The only striker gun I can shoot more accurately than the p320 is the ppq. I haven't stretched my p320 out to 25 yards, but I'm sure I can probably shoot 2" groups with it from a rest if I do my part and take my time

THAT ODG WON'T WORK WITH THE NEW GEN 2 SLIDE RELEASE. YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE THE IST GEN PART. THE NEW FRAMES COME WITH THE NEW SLIDE RELEASE WHICH YOU ALREADY HAVE ON YOUR P320 NEWER MODEL. MY SUBCOMPACT WAS RELEASED IN OCT 2016 AND HAS THE GEN ONE SLIDE RELEASE. LOOK INTO IT HAMMER STRIKER.
@HammerStriker7 жыл бұрын
Though it looks a bit odd since it does not line up with the ridge on the frame, it does work flawlessly. The gun locks back, the slide release does not bind and does release the slide when pressed. However, this is just one more implementation issue with the chassis concept. The concept is solid, but is being hampered by their execution of it.
@mikebeach25167 жыл бұрын
OK. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIND A NEW VERSION OF THE GRIP FRAME BUT AS YOU SAID THEY ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. MAYBE IS IS THE OTHER WAY AROUND THE OLD SLIDE RELEASE WONT WORK ON THE NEW GRIP FRAME. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL MAN KEEP IT UP.

Thank-you. I hope Sig gets it together with the availability of these Grip Frames since that is one of the major bragging points of this particular firearm.

FN doesn't beta test with their customers... Won't ever own another Sig unless it's almost as old as I am, comes in a cardboard box, and says made in Germany on it...

Sigs website does list the carry model grip for $44. Currently at the time of this comment it does say in stock as well.
@HammerStriker7 жыл бұрын
You are correct that they show in stock. However, when you try to choose certain sizes it gets messy. You will find that it is a limited selection available. For example the Black grip-frame (9/.40/.357) is only available in Medium - there are no other choices in the list. The ODG is available in Small and Large (but Large has been out-of-stock every time I have checked). The FDE which appears in the scroll window of colors - doesn't even appear in the picklist to choose from. So, some get lucky in that the particular size/color they want is one of the available ones.. Those with large hands (Hammer) are SOL. If you can live with Medium and just want to go between Carry, Compact, Full-Size or SubCompact then you are probably good to go.

I would pay $450 for an exchange kit... no background check. And it’s practically another gun... even at $500 it’s still cheaper...

Bore axis looks different?
@HammerStriker7 жыл бұрын
They are, Sig is known for high bore-axis on all of their guns. in 9mm it makes little difference but when you go into higher calibers the felt-recoil can be noticeably higher in the Sig.
@heaterfamily7 жыл бұрын
I have sig 320 in all calibers...All have little to no muzzle flip...bore axis is bullshit. Angle of grip and design can offset that.
@19tank817 жыл бұрын
John Heater I totally agree! My Glock 17 is a bit more "jumpy" when firing double and triple taps. The SIG has a higher bore axis, and is a bit heavier, but it handles like a dream, better than the Glock. I'll never part with my Glock though lol, I love all my pistols.
@damon3236 жыл бұрын
I'm not recoil sensitive in any way possible, but bore axis isn't bullshit. You haven't shot many guns if you assume that.

TThe P320 is what they came up with to salvage the P250 without having to design a completely new gun. The FN is more refined and isn't a rehash of a failed DAO pistol.

What’s with everyone having to make sure the viewers know it’s unloaded? Do people cry about that or wat? Just seems funny
@HammerStriker7 жыл бұрын
We (and other channels like ours) do that for a purpose, it is because there are different reasons people come to KZbin. Some come purely for entertainment (which is great), but many are new to firearms and come to KZbin to learn. As safe handling procedures are the most important factor of dealing with firearms, reinforcing it is important. An inexperienced shooter viewing our videos (or others with similar mindset) will be reminded of the need to be very aware of the state of the weapon in addition to following the other safety procedures. Every once in a while you hear of somebody being shot by an "unloaded gun" (obviously it wasn't) or during the cleaning procedure. Hopefully reinforcing the need to clear a weapon that is going to be handled for a reason other than actually firing it may educate somebody and prevent a tragedy.
@firstmkb6 жыл бұрын
Yep, I'm new, and felt a bit nervous when the host of another channel waved the muzzle "in my face." It just felt wrong! I appreciate the attention to detail, and reinforcement of etiquette of showing that the weapon is safe (versus "take my word for it").
