Growing up in Canada in the 80's we all went into cadets as teenagers. At the time the Canadian military was issued the FN C1 A1 (Known as the FAL in the US) - gotta say this was my issued weapon and my all time favorite rifle for drill with arms and the range @ Ipperwash, especially since she was a .308 and could punch cards with the best of 'em. I was heart broken when they took them out of issue, chopped them all up and replaced them with some friggin pea shooter in .223. Id give my right arm to have one hangin on my wall again.

It will be interesting to do a video demo on the 7.62 version to differentiate the immense fire power in section/squad fire & movement drill against a platoon. The carnage it can inflict with synchronised firing on the move using burst fire sweeping 180 degrees area of contact.

Would I be incorrect in saying by that simply welding (or by using other, likely more precise means of attachment) the bolt to the hammer on the m249s, you could convert it to a machine gun? I would imagine that the extractor and what not is attached to the bolt, so let's disregard that part of the situation. But for most of the case, would that work? (Please don't raid my house atf)

Huh? I don't understand how open bolt and close bolt make any difference in terms of fire arm regulation. Why did they have to make it close bolt?
@mooseishman7 жыл бұрын
akx For the most part, open bolt is almost exclusively associated with machine guns. Also, there were a lot of open bolt semis that the ATF decided a long time ago needed to be modified because it was too easy to make them machine guns, such as the MAC and Uzi. Basically, a closed bolt 249 would require a significant enough amount of effort to illegally convert I.e. an open bolt might be converted with available or ‘lost/fell off a supply truck’ parts.

Wait what's with the ATF and open bolt guns?
@DaveSmith-cp5kj7 жыл бұрын
Supposedly the ATF doesn't like people producing new open bolt guns even if they are semi auto because they are easy to convert to full auto. They will be fine with single shot open bolts. Realistically though it does nothing, because even striker and hammer fired guns can be very easily converted illegally to open bolt with just a little metal working skills. The evidence of that is in the converted guns the ATF has seized over the decades, which represent just a small fraction of the illicit select fire guns running in circulation.
