The Swedes are currently using the AK5D, a much updated and improved version licensed by FN and upgraded to that variant by SAAB Bofors. They are not civilian ownership friendly so the likelihood of imports, even of parts kits, is slim to none. PINDAD in Indonesia is also licensed and producing the SS1 which is their copy of the FNC but they're phasing it out for a locally designed SS2. They don't seem to be in the market to export to the U.S. since they're a state owned manufacturer. Sadly, what few FNCs are remaining in the US are all we'll have access to even if import restrictions were lifted.
@Faltrollet6 жыл бұрын
Nick K No, the AK5C is standard issue, AK5D is only issued to some units since the only difference between C and D is that the D has a shorter barrel.
@nickk14566 жыл бұрын
@@Faltrollet thank you for the correction. I assumed the D would be the go to since it was the latest variant. I'd kill for a D parts kit to have a legit FNC worked up but SAAB doesn't allow kits out. Would be awesome if FN produced the D for importation here, if even for a short period of time. I suppose one can hope considering they did the collector's line for the M249, M16 and M4.
@jaegren5536 жыл бұрын
Improved? The adjustable is a joke in quality, the crudly welded top rail hinders the use of the 400m ironsights and shakes the reddot sight out of its zero, the flipup frontsights which replaced the really hooded front post sight is moving around while shooting, the fronhandle is big and way to heavy which makes the whole weapon unbalanced and really frontheavy. And yeah It's almost 500g heavier then the old one.
@nickk14566 жыл бұрын
@@jaegren553 I would have figured SAAB Bofors would have done a better job of building/adding the upgrades. I was mostly thinking of it in terms of adding the capability for RDOs and a railed forend for weapon mounted light and laser designator. If not done properly, then it's certainly going to degrade the capabilities of the weapon so that sucks to hear that.
@SWEmanque6 жыл бұрын
@@nickk1456 Adding rails will add weight unless the foregrip you are replacing is really badly designed o begin with. The iron sights for the C and D version prioritizes a low profile and low cost because 99% of the time the weapon will be used with Aimpoints. Basically, they chose between not having them at all or keeping the rear sight as they were and just changing the front post. Welded rails will always be less stable than rails that are part of the receiver, that being said I haven't heard of anyone's rifle losing zero because of it, perhaps John's rifle was made on a Monday. AK5C and D have fixed gas settings. In the end the AK5C and D are 80's rifles that have been updated with the minimum funds possible and they still are completely serviceable. They are nearing the end of their service life though. If someone were to make a modern interpretation of the AK5C that could be a very competitive rifle.

It would be nice if the AK adopted the design of the FN FNC's spring-loaded dust-cover on the receiver; it would permanently close up that hole on the receiver. LAV SHOW THE LOVE FOR THE FNC!!!! I have 3 of these BEASTS, 1 Fixed stock and 2 Para models. One of the Paras is VERY RARE with the 4 position selector. FN should have NEVER stopped building these. Hard to find in the States because it was one of the BANNED FROM IMPORT by name thanks to Diane Feinstein. Whenever I take these out to the range it doesn't take long for the crowd to gather. The report from firing draws attention, then the crowd trying to figure out what it is always makes me smile. TRULY A FANTASTIC RIFLE. Great sights, fast handling, easy operating, amazing feel when shouldered. BEFORE the SCAR project I BEGGED FN MFG to try to import parts kits. I have written dozens of letters to DSARMS trying to get them to build an ALL AMERICAN MADE FNC. That would bypass the import ban. IF IT WAS NOT FOR THE BAN, I think these would have been very popular here in the States.

I know some guys in the army that got their SCAR-L’s issued. For vehicular ops and in buildings they prefer the scar for its lightweight and adjustable stock. And mounting flashlights and grips. But for long range shooting and reliability most of them prefer the FNC. If you get one of the newer ones that itsn’t 40y old and is still tightly fitted at least. Nowadays they are in use for training, active troops get a SCAR.

The rifle being used in MGSV is not an FNC, as it's not real. It's an amalgamation of several different rifles, including the FN FNC, Type 89, Beretta AR-70 and Daewoo K2. The biggest influences taken from the FNC and the Beretta AR-70, arguably so.
