Never got bit by the BHP. Owned two, one BHP practical 9mm and a .40 that I had converted to .357 SIG via The Action Works in AZ. Shot like a laser. I prefer the weight and feel of the original 9mm. The new FN is obviously a good gun but time will tell on how it sells.

Nice. I bought my Hi Power about a year or so before they stopped production. I completely agree that it is too slippery, which is why I put some skateboard tape on it (not perfect, but it does help). I don't have very big hands, so hammer bite has never been an issue for me, but I can see how it could be a problem for those who do have larger hands.

thanks for a very good review. I purchased this pistol in August 2023, hoping it would become my new night stand pistol. I like everything about it feature wise; however, it shoots 2" low for me (I'm general very accurate). I had the range officer shoot it on my second range trip as it was still shooting low and he also grouped as I did. It was interesting to me that neither of you had any trouble with that issue--other KZbinrs have. I will try different ammo and perhaps sights before I give up on it.

Well... After initially failing to see the point of this re-designed rendition of the Legendary "Hi-Power" (In Name Only, was my cynical thought), I guess I'm now having a new respect for what this thing is intended to be. Yeh, sort of the "resto-mod" idea you mentioned. Not that that's a perfect analogy... 'cause there's not actually much of even the looks of the original left with this one. But overall "driveability" has (apparently, per your comments) been fully improved to modern standards. While still being a SAO/hammer-fired mechanism (which, like traditional stick-shift cars, is now rather rare). I guess there are actually Single Action Only versions of the Sig 226/229 available, so this new Hi-Power doesn't technically retain exclusive claim to that mechanism/category. But this will still be... definitive, I guess you could say, of that particular Market Niche. For anybody wanting something like the virtues of a modernized 1911, but with higher capacity, without the grip safety, and without the price of something from Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, et al.

My curiosity is peaked on the fn hp. I'm gonna have to rent one. As mentioned in a comment below, there is a big old gaping hole in the recoil spring housing that seems like a libility in dirty situation such as wrestling a bad guy on the ground. In any case maybe a full length guide rod could be substituted to fill the hole . Thanks for the wonderful review.

Had a Hi Power in the early 90’s. Pretty, nickel plate, gold trigger, walnut grips. But I already had the “Kalispell”-marked CZ75 and found them very similar, very “loose” feeling, like you could feel every part in the guns move when it fired. I deduced that the CZ was a direct ripoff of the Hi Power, and cooler, so I got rid of the Hi Power. Talk about regret.
@johndilday18462 жыл бұрын
I have had both, and found the High Power to be a bit small for my hands, and I always got hammer bite with it. I still have a .40 High Power, and it bites my hand as well. I have a nicely blued CZ-75 that has a bigger grip that doesn’t bite my hand. For me, the CZ beats the original High Power. To each their own.

Any thoughts about the recoil spring housing being an empty hole? Below the barrel, there's a second hole that's wide open to the elements/sediment/whatever else gets inside the internals of the $1,000+ handgun. Curious for other peoples thoughts about this, im ganna call it a flaw, design flaw.

The Browning Hi Power and the 1911 pistols were fantastic pistols at the time of invention as were the single action revolvers. Whilst still very good time has moved on and there ara many superior pistols and revolvers.
@jimbot.45392 жыл бұрын
My question would be, what makes a modern 9mm better than a high power? 15-17 round mags mean capacity isn’t an issue, single action triggers without mag disconnect are better than pretty much all striker fire pistols, the only thing the high power is missing is a light mount or optics mount.
@spencerbookman25232 жыл бұрын
I'm still confused as to why FN bothered with a new "High Power". They could have introduced this pistol at any time in the last few decades. Why do it now? And why keep the High Power name? They should have renamed it, at least. I don't need an all-steel service pistol - and this probably wouldn't be my first choice, anyway, although it has some nice features - so a cheap clone High Power is much more appealing to me, being as close to the classic pistol as I can get now, and more affordable.

I never had hammer bite from 2 different Hi-Powers or 1911's, People need to learn to hold pistols. Watching you shoot, it's no wonder you get hammer bite the way yer hand climbs up the grip. The web of the hand is almost touching the hammer on this one.

@@GBGuns My High Power always bites me. My CZ-75 doesn’t, so I prefer to shoot it, plus the grip is long enough for my hand.
