It's always weird when you realize that the animatronics are technically the good guys just trying to get revenge. I have my own theory that the only reason they attack you in the games is because you are either the son of purple guy, so you look like him and they think that you are him, or they see the guard outfit you wear that reminds them of him.

They are just kids, which are very impulsive. Add that to the fact that they have been killed and been in suits for twenty years, and all the anger they have gained, they will basically attack anything they see that looks like William.
