Weather forecast from Bensweather bensweather.com/
Jackie has been on the nest since 2/4 17:14 and incubated for almost 62 HOURS straight while Southern California was drenched by a severe Atmospheric River event. This is her longest shift on record by far! Hopefully she will now be able to stretch her wings, shake off icicles and maybe even catch some breakfast.😊
Jackie tends to do the lion's share of incubation in bad weather. Having a larger body and a larger brood patch, she does not allow Shadow to sit on the nest at all during bad weather, and he knows it.
Jackie and Shadow do not need to eat every day, especially when they do not fly much and just conserve energy. Jackie likely ate on 2/4 off the nest. Shewas doing crop drops on 2/5 and poop shots (PS) on 2/6.
Snow is an amazing insulation material. It limits heat exchange. It stabilizes temperature. It even muffles sound!: bit.ly/30ySstN
